Well, I had a fun morning yesterday - a rare early morning start too, afforded to be my the stable weather conditions (and so a relatively easy report!)

This morning early on it was rather cold outside though it's destined to quickly get warmer today with a temperature rising above zero. Similarly fine weather is forecast for tomorrow.

There's not much snow potential on the forecast just at the moment - perhaps some light snow at times later in the week - and there's now a definite feel of 'spring' in the air.

There's still a fair while to go yet of course though, with some lifts planning to be operating through until Sunday 7th May. I have added the planned season closing dates for each of the areas below for your reference.

And of course, I plan to be here with you with a new report every day until the end of the season.

---

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base : -6°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -7°, no new snow. Annupuri 1150m, no new snow. Hirafu 1250m, -7°, no new snow. Coastal data: Kamui Cape: light winds, 1022hPa, wave 0.5m.

We are currently under the influence of a high pressure system and the pressure gradient is shallow. There is no new snowfall and below 800m there is thin surface frost layer has formed. From observation cornices and snowdrifts are stabilising. General avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to be open. Do not duck ropes to enter strictly off limits areas.

Cracks are starting to open on south facing steep slopes around 600m. The possibility full depth avalanches is increasing. Slopes with wrinkles downhill from cracks show tension in the slope has released and the immediate avalanche risk has lowered on that slope.

In Niseko area volcanic activity causes holes to form in the snowpack from the ground up. They can be covered with thin bridge of snow and collapse under a person's weight. Take care, open holes and cracks are hard to see from above.

Cornices are stabilising, however there is always the risk of sudden collapse. Do no stand around on the top of cornices. Today's snow is good, have fun in the sun.

LATE SEASON REPORTING
The individual Now reports will continue in each area until the season in that place closes - some will continue daily, some will become less than daily once we get into April.

Once the season has finished everywhere, we will be adding a general season wrap up to each of the reports, where we will also answer questions and comments that we regularly get sent. Some do keep on coming back! The end of season message will be up at the end of Golden Week in early May.

Thank you for reading.
