Good morning from Niseko.

After a day of fine weather yesterday... we're probably going to have more of the same today. Only a bit warmer. It's actually already above zero this morning and we can just hope that it doesn't warm up too much.

Today we are expecting these blue skies and sunshine during the morning with perhaps more cloud moving in as the day goes on.

And sunny conditions tomorrow too.

With no fresh snow to freshen things up, it might be a bit crusty out there first thing. (Good on toast, but not the best for the ski slopes).

Still, the groomers are looking all pretty and ready to be messed up this morning and I am sure it will be a fun - spring - morning.

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base : -6°, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: -7°, light winds, no new snow. Annupuri 1000m, snowpack 240cm. Hirafu 1250m, -7°, light winds, no new snow. Coastal data: Kamui Cape: ENE3m/s, 1016hPa, wave 0.4m.

Sunny weather with the current shallow barometric pressure gradient. All gates are expected to be open. There is no new snow and the snow surface as developed a crust. Take care riding in the morning it is easy to catch edge. After 11am conditions will be softer. As the temperature rises the risk of full depth avalanches increases. Around 1000m Osawa, Backbowl, full depth avalanches will run long distances down the valley floors, clearing everything in their paths. Best to avoid riding in valley bottoms. Do not enter strictly off limits areas.

20 years ago Niseko Rules were set up under the leadership of local government in response to the high number of accidents occurring in Backbowl, Osawa, Mizuno no sawa. Although they are not perfect, they have achieved the desired results, and the number of accidents have dramatically decreased since that time. Niseko respects everybody's freedom to ride out of bounds, while at the same time aiming to protect the safety of all mountain users. We request everybody's continued support of the Niseko Rules.
