Morning from Niseko.

It looks like we're on for another day of generally fine weather conditions here.

There's more cloud this morning early on, and perhaps they will clear up leaving us with clearer skies.

A chance of light snow on the forecasts for tomorrow to Friday.

That's about all I have to report this morning, so I'll leave it at that and see you tomorrow.

(Actually, check below for individual resort info - looks like wind at higher elevations might be affecting some lifts...)

Niseko Avalanche Report:

Mountain base : -6°, sunny, no new snow. Moiwa 800m: no data. Annupuri 1150m: -7°, NE8m/s, no new snow. Hirafu 1250m, -7°, light winds, no new snow. Coastal data: Kamui Cape: ENE4m/s, 1014hPa, wave 0.7m.

The high pressure continues, light winds and sunny today. There is no new snow and all the mountains are tracked out. Apart from strictly off limits areas on the south side, general avalanche risk is low. Cornices are stable but there is always the risk of collapse, and in that situation, rescue is often impossible. All gates are expected to be open. Off the groomers the snow surface will be icy in the morning, so take care falling or hitting trees.

The Niseko Rules are official land use rules and must be followed by all mountain users. These rules were created to prevent accidents on the western Prefectural Forest (Niseko) and eastern Nation Forest(Kutchan) sides of the mountain. It was recognised that just creating the off limits areas would not be a deterrent to accidents, but also that recognising the freedom to ride out of bounds was equally important. This is the basis of the rules and they have been successful stopping what at the time was the worst backcountry accident records in Japan.

Without knowing the history of the area it is foolish to casually disregard the rules. The recent Haru no Taki accident shows the ultimate price can still be paid. The Niseko Rules were set up to provide a minimum level of safety while at the same time protecting your freedom to ride out of bounds. Follow the rules. Have a good day.

LATE SEASON REPORTING
The individual Now reports will continue in each area until the season in that place closes - some will continue daily until the end, some will become less than daily now that we are in April.

Once the season has finished everywhere, we will be adding a general season wrap up to each of the reports, where we will also answer questions and comments that we regularly get sent. Some do keep on coming back! The end of season message will be up at the end of Golden Week in early May.

Thank you for reading.
