Snow and weather reports posted on Saturday 24th February 2018
Sunday 11th April 2010, 9:36am
Mixed bag over the last couple of days from bluebird to overcast and rain. This morning is partly cloudy and it is expected to remain fine for the rest of the day. Fine weather is expected to continue until later on Tuesday when some more rain is expected ahead of some cooler air and snow on Wednesday.
Light rain is falling as I write this in Yuzawa and it looks set in for the day - not the best of weather to end the season on for the two resorts that close at the end of operations today. It is about 8 degrees at the moment with just a slight wind.
Tomorrow we will likely see a continuation of the rainy conditions along with a good chance of strong winds at times.
So, from tomorrow it's down to Gala Yuzawa and Kagura....
Official resort snow depths @ 11th April 10, AM: Mt Naeba: 110cm Kagura: 330cm Kagura - Tashiro: 280cm GALA Yuzawa: 180cm Kandatsu Kogen: 170cm

It is very mild - warm - morning in Zao with a temperature of 9 degrees in the village and +5 degrees up on top! It's a cloudy morning with just a slight wind. Tomorrow there is a good chance of rain in the region thought it will likely be cooler then warming up again on Tuesday.
From tomorrow (as noted below) the Zao Chuo Ropeway will be closed for maintenance and a few more lifts that will only from now be open on weekends and holidays until 5th May and so less of the resort area will be open. Nozawa Onsen Now!
Sunday 11th April 2010, 11:32am
Yesterday was a fine day and very warm again. It is another mild morning but rain has been falling - even up top - and there is poor visibility on the upper slopes as the mountain is covered in cloud/fog. Not the kindest of conditions up there, but still some people out there sliding on the snow - not many though!
It's about 7 degrees and while the rain may ease off temporarily, it looks set to be raining most of today and tomorrow as well.
The lower slopes at the Gondola base have really seen alot of thesnow cover melt up in the last week or so and in places now there is more brown earth on view than there is snow remaining. Still, though, great cover remains on the open upper slopes of the mountain.

This morning I woke up to the sound of melting snow dripping of my roof and collecting in noisy puddles around my bedroom window. It seems the rain we had yesterday turned to snow for a small time before tapering off for good around 9 o'clock. Skies should continue to clear until midday, leaving nothing but sunshine for the afternoon hours. Temperatures will top out around 8 degrees and then it will be clear and relatively cold with a low around -5 tonight, meaning all those slushy puddles formed by melting snowdrifts should freeze up come midnight, so please be careful if you have plans to do any late night driving. Winds will be brisk at around 5 m/s while this cold front makes its way through Central Hokkaido.
There's still plenty of powder up on the Furano side of the mountain, and since today is turning out to be perfect for spring skiing conditions. If you have the chance, be sure to hit the mountain will you still can! Read more ...

Cloud, light rain
It has been a generally wet last day of the season in Naeba though it is just cloudy at the moment this afternoon and fairly bright in the village though the clouds have been covering the mountain and poor visibility up there.
Anyway, the Naeba resort has now officially closed for the season. The Kagura resort remains open of course - the Tashiro area until 5th May and the main Kagura area (via Mitsumata) until 23rd May.
We plan to post new Naeba Now weather update reports a few times a week until the end of the season at Kagura. The Yuzawa Now report will continue to be updated on a mostly daily basis - including any information on Kagura as well - so please keep an eye on that report as well for the most up-to-date information.
Official Snow Depths:
Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm
The Tashiro part of Kagura plans to be open until Wednesday 5th May.
The main Kagura area, via Mitsumata Ropeway, plans to be open through until Sunday 23rd May. Read more ...
