Morning from Yuzawa.
It's windy this morning, even down here at town level. Strong southerly winds and they are going to be messing around with resort operations. Here's the news:
- GALA Yuzawa will be closed for the day - Only the Mitsumata Number 1 lift will be open this morning at Kagura - the Kagura Area and Tashiro Area of the resort are closed.
So the choice today would seem to be Mitsumata or Kandatsu Kogen, which should be opening as planned.
As well as the wind, some rain is expected today as well, and perhaps tomorrow too. It's cooler though and temperatures may not reach 10 degrees during the day.

Clear conditions mean the views through to Tokachidake this morning are very nice. The temperature is reasonably warm at +7c but the light wind feels a bit chilly unless you are in the suns rays. Heavy rain is expected at base this afternoon, but the upper mountain should receive some fresh snow from tonight through to Thursday. If the forecast is correct it could be up to 50cm of new snow at the top...fingers crossed that eventuates but lets just wait and see. Read more ...

Nasty out there
A quick note: this is not a day to go out on the snow. And you may not be able to.
Crazy winds all through the night; everything loose around the house scattered around the driveway and across the road in the woods (one blue sheet is still missing). I doubt the lifts will be running; even if they did, the rain is falling/blowing horizontally.
No reports in for the morning, so we'll guess a bit on the temperatures; the snowpack will have fallen, but we'll keep yesterday's figures.
Lots of low cloud this morning and it has and started raining or actually snowing depending on where you are.
Yes, higher up and snow is falling from the skies. Might it be snowing down here too later. We can hope.
Looks like visibility is varied out there this morning - fair to poor in places.
Colder today so need to wrap up this morning. Hopefully things might be clearer tomorrow.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Cloud, light rain
Morning from Nozawa.
It has started raining, I'm afraid.
A bit of wind too, though it doesn't seem to be - at the moment - affecting the opening plans of the resort.
It's going to be a bit colder today and tomorrow and local forecasts even have the chance of a bit of snow falling tomorrow which means that there's surely a pretty good chance of snow on mountain. That would be good!
Let's see what nature delivers...
You can still ski or snowboard back down close to the Hikage base area - from where you can get on a shuttle bus back over to the base of the Nagasaka Gondola if you want to get back up top. Snow conditions are better higher up though, so I expect that most people will be staying up there for most of the day.

It's a kind of overcast start to the day though sun is forecast so perhaps things will brighten up.
Strong winds are affecting the top King Number 4 lift at Niseko Grand Hirafu at the start of the day.
The forecast is for mild conditions today but later on as things get colder we have a bit of rain on the forecast and perhaps even a little snow too going into tomorrow.
I will of course let you know how that goes tomorrow morning.
Niseko Grand Hirafu is now making a point of mentioning that with the snow retreating from lower slopes, the lower slope is getting narrow and not suitable for 'non experts' - and recommended them to get the Ace Center Four lift back down to base.

Good morning from Grandeco.
It is a little windy this morning and because of the wind the gondola will be operating at reduced speed from 8:30.
Winds should calm down by this afternoon, but rain is due to start falling. The good news there is that it should change into snow in the evening. That's what the forecasts say anyway!
Temperatures should be keeping quite cold the whole day.
Keep warm when you ski and be prepared for that rain too!
