Cloud, rain forecast
The rain is holding off this morning and the roads are dry at the moment - in Yuzawa anyway, it has been raining a bit to the north in Minamiuonuma and the forecast is indeed rain for Yuzawa and the Naeba area today.
It is 10 degrees now and there is some fairly strong winds blowing about. The winds are affecting the resorts that remain open - Gala Yuzawa is closed for the day and so is the Tashiro area of Kagura. Mitsumata Ropeway is open with the resort open up until the Kagura No1 pair lift.... so basically that is the only area open in the region today.
Official resort snow depths @ 12th April 10, AM: Kagura: 330cm Kagura - Tashiro: 280cm GALA Yuzawa: 180cm
Planned closing dates at resorts in Yuzawa:
Wednesday 5th May 2010: Gala Yuzawa Kagura (Tashiro Area)
It is a cloudy and foggy start to the day in Zao - with some snow falling! Just a bit, but great to see. It is likely to perhaps be falling as rain as the day moves on and things get warmer, but right now it is a cold morning. Very poor visibility on the mountain this morning.
Tomorrow will be much warmer with a forecast of cloud and rain showers, with there being more chance of some slight snowfall on the mountain on Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Please note that from now until the end of the season in Zao, I will be continuing to update this Zao Now page a few times a week.

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Monday 12th April 2010, 11:08am
Good morning from Nozawa.... just the Nagasaka Gondola and the two Yamabiko quad lifts at the top of the mountain remain open now. It is still actually possible to ski to the lower slopes, though snow is really getting thin on the ground now and limited options... the lower part of Skyline course is now closed on the right hand side of the resort. A shuttle bus is operating taking skiers from the lower slopes to the Gondola to get back up to the top - though as you might imagine the best conditions can be found up there, so I would recommend people to stick to those Yamabiko lifts once you get up there!
It is a cloudy morning with poor visibility at times up there - a quick look at the webcams shows the Uenotaira area currently with close to zero visibility, though at the moment Yamabiko fairly clear. The forecast says rain so we can surely expect to get a bit wet sometime today!
Right now it is 8 degrees in Nozawa.
Clearer conditions are likely tomorrow.

Light rain is falling in Shiga Kogen this morning, as we go back to more limited weekday lift operations at resorts in the area. A chilly morning has already given way to rapidly rising temperatures, thanks to plenty of sunshine making its way through a few high clouds. Temperatures will top out around 7 above before falling back around the freezing mark by midnight. A system moving through the region will bring what is promising to be some significant amounts of precipation through the overnight hours and into tomorrow, and it looks as if it will start as snow before changing to a wintry mix and then all rain by tomorrow midday. If you wanted to hit the slopes very early tomorrow, you have a good chance of grabbing some fresh powder, but by afternoon it will be all drizzle and slush.
As far as today goes, it is another spring-like (for Hokkaido) sunny day, perfect for getting in a few last runs before ski season ends. Read more ...

It has been raining today in Hakuba after the rain of yesterday, so it's all a bit wet at the moment. Having said that, this afternoon it had eased off somewhat at times though the forecast is for rain showers to continue into tonight though they will hopefully clear up overnight.
There is a lot of cloud around as well with only the lower parts of the mountain visible - poor visibility today on the upper slopes of the resorts. Right now it is about 7 degrees in the village so not as warm as it has been, but tomorrow should be warming up again with varied conditions on the local forecast.
Here is the latest info from resort areas that remain open (subject to change):
