Naeba Now!

Tuesday 12th April 2011, 9:07am
Weather conditions: Sun, some cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
I was rudely awoken by a fairly strong tremor early this morning - from what I can gather an aftershock of the one there was in northern Nagano about a month ago - but never a good feeling. Not of the size that does damage though really. From what I can tell, Kagura is open as planned this morning.

Apart from the early shake though it is a lovely morning with the sun out and lots of blue skies - just some cloud hanging on but the bets are that they will be quickly moving on. Kagura is reporting a cold -5 early on but things will surely rise above zero today.

A run of fine weather from today into the weekend with a good chance that it will warm up further each day, getting to be very warm by Friday.

Operations at Kagura:(12th April):

Kagura:
- Mitsumata Ropeway
- Mitsumata No1 Quad
- Mitsumata No2 Pair
- Kagura Gondola
- Kagura No1 Quad
- Kagura No1 Pair
- Kagura No5 Pair

The downhill course from the bottom of the Mitsumata slopes to the Mitsumata car park is also open for the weekend.

Official Snow Depth:

Kagura:
380cm

We will post updates to this Naeba Now section a few times a week until the end of the season at Kagura. At the same time, the Yuzawa Now report area will continue to be updated on a daily basis including any information on Kagura as well. So please keep an eye on that report as well for the most up-to-date information on Kagura.   Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Tuesday 12th April 2011, 9:32am
Weather conditions: Sun
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
At around 7:25am this morning a fairly strong earthquake rocked the region again.... centered in northern Nagano and likely an aftershock to the earthquake that that same region had on 12th March. Let's hope that is the last of them.

Otherwise it is a fine morning - nice and sunny and fairly warm after a coldish night. It will warm up to around 9 degrees today in town but from tomorrow we are expecting warmer still and by Friday temperatures may be approaching 20 degrees in the daytime.

Quick update - it looks like the Kandatsu Kogen resort in Yuzawa has decided that it is going to re-open for the coming weekend Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April. There's enough snow, so why not?!   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Tuesday 12th April 2011, 9:43am
Weather conditions: Sun, blue skies
New snowfall: --

As expected it is a lovely morning in Hakuba.

Yesterday it actually got quite cold in the afternoon and overnight with temperatures once again dipping down into the negatives, but this morning it is bright blue skies and hardly a cloud to be seen. It might not warm up that much today (high of around 6 degrees in the village?) but from tomorrow until Friday we are likely to see warmer temperatures as well as continued sunny clear weather conditions.

Myoko Now!

Tuesday 12th April 2011, 13:39pm
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It snowed last night; you think it's over, and there you go. It was only an unmeasurable dusting, but it was still snow. Now it's a great, sunny day.

We had a pretty good earthquake this morning, but luckily no damage or interruptions to our regularly scheduled lift operations. It was good and cold this morning, too, just helping to keep the base intact.

Open Ski Resorts

Akakan (Akakura Kanko):
Sky Cable gondola, Hotel No. 3.

Seki Onsen:
Open until May 8.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Tuesday 12th April 2011, 14:57pm
Weather conditions: Sunny clear skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's a complete turn around in weather today with the sun out and bright blue skies. For the amount of sun we are getting though it is keeping fairly cool today. Not so tomorrow by the looks though with warmer conditions well into the double digits along with continued fine weather that looks set to run right through until probably the end of the weekend.

This morning, we had the nasty experience of another earthquake in this part of north Nagano and while it wasn't big enough to cause damage from what I have heard it sure made people nervy once again. It was another aftershock from the one we had on 12th March in a similar location.
