Nozawa Onsen village is located to the north east of Nagano City, in the north eastern region of Nagano Prefecture. The village area and ski resort is about 6km off Route 117 when approaching from Nagano City, and just over 3km off Route 117 when approaching from the north.
The easiest way to get to Nozawa Onsen by train from Tokyo or other major cities is to take a shinkansen (bullet train) to Iiyama station (about 1h40m on the fastest shinkansen from Tokyo station), and then the Nozawa Onsen Liner Bus from Iiyama to Nozawa Onsen (14km, about 25 minutes).
Another alternative is to take (from Nagano or Iiyama) the local line (Iiyama line) to one of the close by stations, Kamisakai (4km) or Togari Nozawa Onsen Station (7km). Please be aware that no bus to Nozawa Onsen is available from these local stations, therefore a taxi ride will be required (advance booking highly recommended, we can help with that).
Also, from Nagano Station (about 45km away), a direct bus to Nozawa is available.
The nearest exit on the Joshinetsu Expressway is Toyota Iiyama IC, 20km away from Nozawa.
