First trip to Hokkaido and we went to Kiroro for a day trip after Niseko. It was snowing like crazy everywhere so the trip from Sapporo took 2.5+ hours instead of 1.5! That cut short our day so we only manage to explore a small part of the resort (My wife being a beginner in snowboarding didn't help...!!!).
From what we see, Kiroro looks like a very local, down to earth type of resort. It's medium in size and snow quality
In terms of snow quality/food I'll give this area a 5*. 2 things prompt me to mark it down to 4*. With snow falling all the time, and the occasional strong wind, visibility is not terribly good. Out of the 3 days we were there, I think we've seen no more than 20 min. of the sun and that is very different from west coast North America.
Seems this is the norm for Hokkaido winter as I have been monitoring
It has been my first skiing experience in Japan and I am impressed. Yubari was recommended to us by one of the our ski club instructors in New Zealand. First of all, getting to the resort from CTS airport was not a problem at all. Bus trip took around 1hrs 20 min and was comfortable.
