Great snow. Good variety of gradient. We only skied three runs 'cause the rest was closed in cloud but I'd like to go back for sure.

Nice euro style lodges too.

In general, it is a very good and wonderful ski spot.

However, the type and choice of foods are relatively limited, the detail grading for ski routes is also lacking.

While the peoples are very nice and helpful.

GALA Yuzawa review by Scrarmange
GALA was my first resort that I went to in Japan last season. When we went it had just snowed the night before with about 20cm of new powder for us to enjoy.

It wasn't that busy either. I can imagine the place ain't too fun when it's busy because the runs aren't that wide. But the snow and the fast lifts are really good here.

Special mention must also go to the amazing views from the top. Be warned though

This mountian is a gem in the rough. If you are living in the Niigata City area, and want to head somewhere for the day without spending a fortune on highway tolls, then Tainai is the place to go. Tainai's runs on the front side are mellow and wide, and offer up some great lines to the beginner. This side also has a couple of small one makes that offer ample air-time for would be sky junkies.

However, it is

This was a great place for an intermediate like myself...it was huge, only the most ambitious and dedicated could ride the entire area.

Due to the height that this resort was at it aquired a large amount of snow early and continues to be supplemented but being early in the season and with large amounts of rider it became slush by the afternoon.

However its length means that it is always possible to find good areas to ride. Also the levels of

We loved this place, it was good for my beginner level wife and also decent for me with a really challenging run at the top of the resort (some great views too).

Avoid the top if you don't like moguls. Relish it if you do!

It was quite busy when we were there, but it was just after New Year so that was to be expected I suppose.

We stayed at the Garden Cress place (from this site) and they were

Gala Yuzawa! I`ve been boarding in Japan for 5 years and I've been to about 25 different resorts. I like Gala!

This is a great resort located only 1 hour and 20 minutes from Tokyo station. Upon arriving at the station you take the escalator up from the platform and you are in the resort. Living in central Tokyo this is the most convenient resort destination for me. 1 day trips are very simple and fun. Gala often has a

Tucked away behind the ARAI/Myoko region of Niigata, this resort is a well-kept secret.

Maybe not everyones cup of tea, but nice snow, nice ski grounds and a good day out.

If you are looking for more of a challenge, best to stick to ARAI (about 30 minutes away)

I like this place and usually go a few times a season. This year they have been able to open a week early and like most of Tokyo we went there last weekend.

The snow was surprisingly good and more than I thought there would be. Arriving in Yuzawa and seeing no snow was not a good sign but once you get up there there is quite a lot.

The only problem is that there are no other

Theres gonna be a lot of reviews of this place seeing as tho it's gonna be one of the last to close. Oh well.

I like this place. Go around now (early April) and therez still loadz of snow around, and no people. Its pretty empty which is no bad thing for us riderz.

My fave place is the top part in the center - called Kagura - which has a few decent long courses serviced by a usually fast quad lift.

Truly lovely mountain. Lovely views at 2000 meters. Good snow, with an 'old-style' feel.

Truly recommended, though should avoid the shiroumain at all costs

Excellent beginners resort.

Although it gets a lot of sun on a nice day being a south side resort. Also, it is a popular ski school resort for Jr/Sr High kids, so the main beginner runs on the bottom get pretty crowded (definitely on weekdays, I don't know about weekends). But if you head off to the other side (right side looking up the mountain, using the gondola to get their) you can have some really nice wide runs for
