NINOX review by Nate
If you are a really good boarder or skier or a beginner (like me), this is a great place to go. If you are an intermediate, the easy slopes will be too easy and the difficult slopes too difficult.

Short lines -- even on Sundays -- nice views.

Bring your own lunch and eat in your car as the lunch room is always noisy and full of smokers

Ishiuchi Maruyama review by J Maret
We had a great time skiing at Ishiuchi Maruyama. In mid-January of 2003 the conditions were quite good with powder skiing on January 21. We skied Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Even on Sunday the lift lines never exceeded 5 or 6 minutes.

Ishiuchi Maruyama is a relatively large resort with many lifts so people tend to be spread out over the mountain (not bottled up at one central lift). The downside is that you must catch several lifts to get to

I just read user 'spired's small review on Naeba and must say that I disagree very much.

I find the resort to be really good - lots of choice of runs, really good snow when I was there. And the Gondola, rather than being "silly" is fantastic - take you over to Tashiro area and Kagura which is another of my favorite places.

aeba can be busy - but just avoid those days. If you do, I think

This is a great place for 16 year old girls to hang out and ride the mountain about 2-3 times and shop the rest of the day.

For a more serious skier/boarder save your time and money and try another resort.

Lots of eye candy though

Kagura review by mogski
Tashiro probably is more of a beginners mountain with many easy slopes and it it doesn't snow the night before would probably be a relatively boring area.

I just happened to strike Tashiro on a day when it had snowed the night before and had some great Niigata epic powder runs on one of the only three or so real intermediate to advan courses.

Watch out for the left side of the number 1 lift that takes you back up to

Kagura review by 7-11
I was up at Kagura for the first ride of the calendar year on Saturday. The roads on the way there were busy (especially around the 7-11 at Kandatsu!), but when we got there and up on the hill it wasn't so bad.

We decided to take the Mitsumata Ropeway up as the next day we were planning on hitting Naeba, so we concentrated on Mitsumata/Kagura for the day.

As always at this place, excellent excellent snow - almost guaranteed here

Naeba review by 7-11
After a day at Kagura, Sunday was for Naeba and Tashiro. Naeba was predictably quite busy, so we got onto the Dragondola for the journey over to Tashiro.

I'm not fully decided on Tashiro. The snow is usually superb - and it was that day - but there are too many long gentle runs for my taste. It always seems a trek there and back, and usually end up at Kagura anyway.

Anyways, we got the Dragondola back to Naeba and

GALA Yuzawa review by fukdane
Me and the lady were over in GALA Yuzawa this week for 2 days. The snow was just brilliant, light and fluffy and a lot of it too!

Surprisingly it wasn't that busy at all, with no waiting for lifts - not even once.

Good food as well (but a bit pricey).

The DJ was even playing decent music. All in all a good experience.

Off to Kijimadaira next.

We went on a holiday. There were no line ups like I had heard. You can catch the gondola to other mountains where the snow is softer.

It was excellent and I have skiied Whistler.

Even on the weekend, and a holiday, there where no line ups as there are so many chairs to chose from. It's excellent

Yuzawa Park review (submitted before 2003)
Small family resort about 10 minutes bus ride from the station at Echigo Yuzawa. If you are a family of beginners then you might like this place, but if you are looking for a challenge, then other resorts in this town will suit you better.

They have a little area for small children where they can play in safety and our toddler really liked that.

Fun tube run too (sit in a big rubber tyre and get pushed down a slope course)

NASPA Ski Garden review by Malcolm B
NASPA is a skier only resort and very family-centered - not for hardcore dudes. But for the people its aimed at its a nice place. We went with 2 Japanese families for the day. The children had lessons in English (they have some New Zealanders there working in the ski school), and the adults just enjoyed a gentle day of skiing.

The snow was great - top conditions - and the weather was also really nice. Hardly anyone on the hills
