I went there 17th and 18th January 2004. The weather was fine, but the drive was tricky - the roads are too narrow in places to pass easily. But the Green Plaza hotel was great!

We spent a lot of time moving from one area to another, which was a pain. But it is a good ski area for families because there are many flat courses for children and beginners. But anyway, the resort is so big so it's

GALA Yuzawa review by simonwb
In terms of convenience and the packages available Gala is a great option. The ability to buy the full package with Shinkansen and lift tickets makes it a really easy way to get onto the mountain.

I have heard that becuse of this thought the place can get pretty packed. Every time I've been out there though we must have been lucky because there were never any long waits.

Gala is a great way to spend the day on the

Kagura review by springwind
This was my second trip coming here this season. Glad I timed it perfectly.

The previous day there was a heavy snow dumpage. After 50 minutes of lift ride finally made it to the upper slopes. Spent the entire morning in waist deep white bliss, up and down the the ungroomed Giant Course. The snow was so deep that in the early part of the morning many boarders were getting stranded (yours truly included) especially along the

Kagura review by coco-z
For a Saturday, this resort was really not crowded at all.

They'd just gotten tons of snow, so the snow was soft on the groomed runs, with knee- or even waist-deep powder off-piste. I went on most of the runs once or twice each and that took most of the day. Some of the lifts are fairly slow, and there are a few flat places between Kagura and Tashiro, but overall the place is huge, with runs for just about every

This was the best powder I've ever carved through in my entire life.

We took a bus from Yokota AB (4hrs) and arrived just after they opened. There wasn't many people there and after getting our lift tickets we hopped on a gondola which takes up most of the way (10 min ride). We got off the lift and WOW! It was just spectacular.

There were a few clouds in the low lying areas and a crysal clear view

NASPA Ski Garden review by rmjapan
This is a good place to learn and practice technique.

Good rental shop and foreign instuctors.

Beginner and intermediate runs are all extremely wide, perfect for those still doing "Z" turns. One day here would be enough as terrain is not very interesting and it can get crowded.

The NASPA hotel and service are first class and their ski plans are good values including meals and sports tickets

Another great Yuzawa resort close to Tokyo perfect for beginners and those wanting to practice technique.

Burton runs a snow boarding school here and thus skiers are probably only 10% of the clientel. With so many boarders the snow gets chopped up pretty fast but the main run is so vast you can still have lot's of fun at good speed. Just need to stay sharp and aware of those around.

Of course the great thing about Yuzawa is when you

I went at the end of 2003. It was great!

Snow quality was very nice with a little powder.

But the restaurants were expensive and the food was so so.

The lower area is flat and wide, so good for beginners. The top of the mountain is better suited for intermediate boarders

Very good conditions and no crowds early week.

Nearby Kagura ski area excellent, nice location, great views, and no tinny music by lolita-complex pop stars (who ever thought this was a good idea?).

Naeba better than I expected except for noise pollution. Prince Hotel was a good deal and staff friendly

Joetsu Kokusai review by complex
I've been to Joetsu two years in a row now, as part of a work-sponsored two-day trip. The nicest thing I've noticed about this place is the massive amount of area to explore. You might not be able to see everything in one day, so take a couple days!

The biggest negative I can think of is that, because it's spread out so much, you have to take a lot of transfer lifts to get from one area to another, and

This is the second time I have visited Joetsu, it is definately boarder-friendly with its three halfpipes and many different sized kickers, and even a few rails.

Extremely nice German-style hotel with very beautiful scenery, it is a moderately sized resort and not too crowded even on holidays.

Only con is that it is that it's too far east and doesn't get the lake effect snow that resorts on the west-side get

My one and only visit to Myoko, and one of my first snowboard experiences in Japan, was a very pleasant one.

As there had been a dump in the area the night before, there was a fair bit of the white stuff, especially the topmost course (name?). Their longest run provided the lotsa room and a nice gentle slope for boarders seeking speed and carving turns. Some pow on the sides and small bumps here and there
