I give this resort a 3 star rating because it does exceed in making you feel comfortable and the overall mood of the resort is relaxed.
The boarding isn't bad and they have a few kickers and stuff to play with on the sides in spots. Having said that, be prepared to wait forever on the lifts! Felt like I could've gotten out and walked up the hill faster. Additionally, the lifts are poorly laid out.
Loads of snow and friendly staff, great lifts and imaculate grooming. Good terrain park and amazing back country. Views of the ocean and volcanoes, cornices and windlips but no cliffs. Maybe they are buried under the 25ft snow pack.
Saturday we escaped Naeba via Dragondola and, watched by kamoshika, zoomed into Kagura.
There we found tasty powder for the asking. Best snow in weeks. So many trees, so many runs. Sunday wasn't quite as good but, when Naeba was turning to slush, there were still small powder pockets for the inquisitive.
Ride Kagura, play at night at Naeba, and tell the kamoshika hello for me
We skied the Maeyama side - many wonderful runs, especially the blacks, nice really deep powder. Three or four great mogul runs. We really liked the hooded lifts. The central skiing area has some nice wide groomed areas for carving.
The minshuku in the Shin area are rather run down. It is worth going to the Akakura Onsen area instead to stay. There are good restaurants in the Chuo area of the gelende.
