Akakura Onsen review by scouseboarder
This place is good for beginners as it has very long slopes which are flat.

However, if you want to go at speed, this is difficult because there are very few steep runs (we found only one decent one) and they are narrow

Kandatsu Kogen review by howard
We went there without great expectations due the lack of recent snow, but we were lucky to get new snow all day.

The wide runs and the lack of people made for a great days boarding. The snow park, while not having a halfpipe was still pretty good. There were a good variety of jumps and rails and the quarter pipe was in a good position to to make it a part of a fun top to bottom run. Although

For lovers of powder runs niseko was truely amazing - who needs backcountry when there is sooooo much powder on piste?

However for those who like blue skies - be prepared for low light, closed in visibility and wind that shreds!

Ah but it is that which brings the white dust from heaven

Akakura Onsen review
It snowed heavily on the drive up and made for amazing conditions.

The powder in the out-of-bounds area was so deep that the two skiers I was with lost one ski each and we had to dig for an hour til we found both. A nice selection of trails for intermediate and expert. Wish I had a pair of snow shoes. There were dozens of skiers and boarders hiking up the mountain. There is a nice selection of restaurants scattered

Hachi Kita Kogen review by gerard
Moving Northeast along Honshu from the Chugoku region, Hachikita is the first respectable ski area that you'll find, and it's a lot more interesting than many places further North too.

Combined with Hachi kogen, the size is respectable and the variety of terrain is even better. The snow is a little heavier than further north, but when it snows, it dumps. In western Japan its known as being a 'serious' mountain with lots of steeps. Best part

Akakura Onsen review by bryantp
If you're a park rider (I'm not), this is the place. The jumps are huge and the talent was there to match it.

For use mountain riders, Akakura offers lots of runs and trees that are in-bounds, spaced well, and fun. As we were having a "snowmelt-slushy" day, it's hard to evaluate the slope quality. Definitely a good place for beginners and intermediates - perhaps not so good for expert-level folks would be my best guess. Lots of parking (at

I came here last year and loved it.

Snow was great peole are lovely. This year theres more aussies than japanese. Some of the bars are closing early thinga are going missing. It is getting very crowded and tracked out much earlier than last year.

It got warm for a few days and snow became heavy like skiing in oz and skiing on piste is dull

Niseko Grand Hirafu review by reggy
Had awesome time overall. Loved the freezing temps which preserved the snow. Snow quality 10 out of 10 although we didnt get the deep powder that this resort normally offers.

The piste map isnt drawn too accurately so the three resorts arent that easily linked which is interesting in the normal foggy conditions (bring your goggles). Run signage needs to be increased.

Yes,the resort isn't overly steep but the terrain through the widely spaced trees makes up for it.

Hunter Mountain Shiobara review by lou
We went to Hunter for the first time last weekend. My kids loved it and went on every run. They like the top runs especially because they weren't so crowded. They also loved the half pipe run. We had beautiful weather both days. Good place for the family and runs were a good length for the kids, especially coming from the gondola all the way down

Chateraise Resort Yatsugatake
My husband and kids started skiing at Chateraise (Sailor Valley).

It is a great place for beginners and small kids. Very small, and easy to get around, plus, once the kids get their feet it is easy to keep an eye on them. The staff are all very friendly. The runs are very short and now it does not offer enough variety or challenge for the kids. My husband has also progressed and likes

Yuzawa Park review
I've tried this Sunday to take advantage of the one-day trip offer with the Shinkansen to go for some snowboarding. I took the cheapest plan I could find, which was for Yuzawa Park (10,800yen including the lift tickets) \r\n\r\nIt is said "what you pay is what you get". This could be applied for Yuzawa Park.

The courses were really short, the longest lift is just 550m. If you actually tried to speed up a bit you would run out of course

Appi Kogen review by daft
I don't care what anybody else says, Appi is the place to go if you are stationed at Misawa.

It's a good place for beginners, intermediate, and advanced snowboarding. There is excellent powder in the Appi 2 side. It is very easy to get to, just hop on the toll road and it's about an hour and a half drive. It's not quite as big as some of the resorts in the states, but it's definitely the best I've been to

Adatara Kogen review by bryan79
I think it is the worst ski resort that I have been so far (compared to Zao, Kita-shiga Komaruyama, Hakuba Happo, Kashimayari). The beginner slope is quite steep and short. I was expecting good snow powder since it is February but it turned out to be as hard as rock. It was painful for people to fall down. The crowd of people was too big. One has to wait for 15-20 mins average just for a ski/snowboard lift. Only two

Furano review by SGM
I have skied at Furano over about 8 or 9 trips since 1989, with my last trip a few weeks ago. On each trip I have spent at least 4 or 5 days in the Furano resort. Without doubt the level of aggravation from the ski patrol reached a new height this year! This was the year where there seemed to be a big push by the Furano resort to get some of the Aussie business that Niseko has been
