Kandatsu Kogen review by mogski
Kandatsu's claim to fame is having the steepest terrain in Niigata. Well, it's steep but not too steep (supposedly 37 degrees) and it is pretty short at about 300m or so and right at the top.. On a good snow day the powder up there is good, but any other time and like all other slopes in Japan of this degree it starts to get bumps the size of some small resorts. Kandatsu is relatively small in

Kashimayari Sports Village review by andy
If you enjoy going off piste then this little known gem has something for you.

Generally, you have to wait to Jan. or Feb when the powder falls and the bushy stuff between the trees gets pounded down by the snow. But, at this time if you go off the top lift to the right there are some good steep runs through the trees. Of course, as I'm sure you'll be aware those annoying little men in red jump suits

Grandeco Snow Resort review by yaamez
Early season Deco was a wonder to behold.

The snow was soft, powdery and held together despite hot sunshine.

I have been here a lot, and this season looks to be shaping up pretty nice. People are pretty friendly and the rentals crew are helpful. It is a good resort to speed through, as the flat stretches can be a pain.

However, there are a few challenging slopes, and we found that there was something

Takasu Snow Park review by BigKahuna
Spent a few days both here and Dynaland and was great.

During the week, so not so crowded which is important for me with a keen 5 yr. old. Speaking of, the kids school was VG. Nice staff who related well and knew their stuff. Not expensive and as we went mid-week only snobee-chan in the class it became cheap private lessons. Good kids gelende & facilities.

Terrain is varied and interesting with some nice long runs. Lots of folks slide

Takasu Snow Park review by BigKahuna
BC Bum said it quite nicely... I too have been "holding back," but since it appears that every other person that heads to Takasu hits every inch of the resort, might as well add my 2-cents (again). I've been going to this resort since it opened, and last season (01~02) I noticed that every spec of rideable (and non-ridable for that matter) was carved out, forcing me to seek other areas I hadn't ventured prior to last season.

Naeba review by landon
We rushed off last Saturday (Nov 23rd) trying to find some early snow in Kagura/Mitsumata.

Apparently the whole of Tokyo had the same idea. We've never seen the place so crowded. The car park was completely full by 8:30am and we were turned away and told to try Naeba. Only 2 bunny runs open there. The bottom one was manmade snow which quickly turned sticky with so many people . Natural snow on the higher run but enormous lift

Easily the most enjoyable 'local' piste in Gifu-ken, the terrain offers enough variety AND length to make it worth the 'daytripper's while. In a nutshell: kicks BUTT over the neighboring gelendes....

After a few turns go visit Seiji's Rodeo Roundup (Texas Style BBQ) in Akutami...killer burgers!

This place seems to get great reviews from people, but personally I can't figure out why. Seems small and uninteresting to me - even though the views are great. A big disappointment for me. If anyone can explain why it has such a good rep, I want to hear it

Well SAHORO RESORT,

What Can I Say!

As a couple of Gaijin Hackers, we learnt to snowboard a few years ago in Japan. Now with working a six day a week job that only leaves a Sunday to play in the snow so this is where Sahoro has become a favorite mountain for us. It's the closest resort with only a 3 hour drive to get there so heres a typical day we spent last year at Sahoro.

Well its 4.30 and the

Pippu review posted before 2006
Pippu is a small resort just outside of Asahikawa. It doesn`t have many slopes but has one excellent slope for snowboarders called Strawberry course (or something like that). Being Hokkaido, the powder is great and there is plently of it.

The lift tickets are really reasonably priced and there is an excellent Onsen (and Rotenburo) situated next to the resort for relaxing after a hard days skiing.

Hokkaido Greenland White Park review
It really small, and not worth the money.

I only went for night boarding, but the bonus was the there were mabye 12 other people on the hill.

This hill is good for beginers, but can get boring after time.

Kurohime Kogen Snow Park review
Excellent for families with small children.

Ski school available for small kids and usually not many people so they get almost 1:1 attention. Mostly intermdeiate slopes so definitely not a challenging course but good enough for mum and dad to escape while the kids are in ski school.

Tangram Ski Circus review by Timmo
Linked with Madarao to the north of Nagano city, I really like this place.

The positioning is great - on a mountain overlooking Iiyama/Nozawa one way and Myoko and the spectacular mountains in the other.

Good resort. Buy the 2 mountain ticket to enjoy a wider space.
