Akakura Onsen review
I've been to Akakura a few times and on the whole I've had some really good times.

The old adage that any resort is good if there's enough snow is particularly true about this place as each time I've been here when it hasnt been snowing or hasnt dumped have been pretty lame.

I'd defo recommend it for beginners though as none of the runs are that steep. And if you're looking for good pow runs head on

Well, I have never been there in winter, but I plan to.

My friends and I went to the Fuji Rock Festival in late July this year and the mountain looks really good. And quite convenient from the Tokyo region too.

Looks like there's lots of runs and lifts all over the place. Looking forward to giving it a look hopefully in December

If you are looking for powder go somewhere else (although you can find it here very long as no one else bothers).

There are 3 lines but all are shortand not really challenging.

This is really a beginning family oriented resort.

They have a nice mogul run for beginning mogul skiers

In the right conditions this could be a great resort.

When I was there the powder was mostly skied out, but it had potential.

They have a park with smallish jumps and slides. Great to give it all a try.

The mogul run a wel layed-out and a good alternative for powder

There are some great lines to ski here.

Even more if you want to hike (haven't tried it and don't know what the patrollers will say/do).\r\n\r\nBut also within the resort nice powder runs on the top half.

The bottom half are cruisers although skier rightside of the mountain can get busy

Akakura Onsen review
It is a huge resort with so many lifts and runs that it never seemed that crowded, even on a Sunday.

We never waited in the lift lines at all. Unfortunately it warmed up and poured with rain on the first day which created icy runs on the second day and there was no powder to be had anywhere.

Nevertheless we had a great day as the snow softened up later on the second day.

Great skiing but make sure you come early (low altitude). Another thing is try to stay away from the patrollers. With a minimum of hiking there is some challenging terrain with nice drops and good tree skiing possible.

If the powder is over there is always the park. Good big jumps and a number of slides. I like it

Ryuoo Ski Park review by iiyamadude
I live fairly close to this place and so it is one of my local places to go along with Nozawa and Kijimadaira. I like Ryuo, esp the more difficult runs and the trees (find me if you can).

First run of the 2005/6 season:

Opening day of the season (23rd Nov 05)! There was more snow than I was expecting up there and it was pretty decent quality as well. Not too busy, excellent weather, great to be out

Nozawa - many people have said it before but it is a really great place.

I'm just a 15 minute drive away as well which helps increase my love of the place :)

Not many cons, this is an all-round "place to go" if you get the chance

I like this place.

It being fairly close to where I live is one bonus, but there are some good runs here, usually good snow and it doesn't get too crowded at all.

The resort is basically split into 2 parts and connected by one run coming down. If you are a decent rider, you'll be wanting to head up to the top via the ropeway.

The bottom part is fairly flat and good for beginners

Star Spur Ryokufu Resort review
I'd easily give this resort 5 stars if it weren't for the patrol. The trees are some of the best in Japan and there is almost always deep powder off the runs.

I have skied at this resort on and off for 2 seasons and have been caught more than 4 or 5 times. Sticking just to the cut runs there isn't much to this resort for the advanced skier. It would get boring really quick.

The back bowls are

Nozawa Onsen review by Steve
When my wife and I visited Nozawa Onsen it was possibly the best late season skiing we have had anywhere in the world!

There were not many people, the snow was fresh from a dusting the night before and the day was long for extra turns.

Also it was a great introduction to the "Real" Onsen experience in Japan. I would highly recommend a late season visit to anyone
