Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park review by oo
I really like this place.

It may not be as big as Happo, but there's decent courses, good snow usually and not too crowded.

Definitely worth a try

Get there on a good day weather wise, good powder and go backcountry .....great times to be had.

If you're looking for fun on the course riding, avoid this place.

It's small and not very interesting

Star Spur Ryokufu Resort Hida Nagareha review by Chris
Great place! Never crowded, plenty of great off piste if you want to try a little danger. the staff are friendly and dont mind you going off piste (I think!).

A surprising place; lots of charachter and good quality of snow. Interesting top section that requires effort to get to.

Kashimayari review by David Campbell
This park is part of three connected resorts. It has some short beginner slopes as well as a couple of longer beginner runs which are quite nice as they wind around the sides of the mountains. The waits for the lifts were very short on a Saturday.

One problem for beginners is that the adjoining parks were connected by advances runs, but you can take the lifts down to avoid biting more off than you can chew.

All in all,

Small resort, just three lifts and a few runs. The cafeteria food is ok, grounds are a little run down and grungy. People are very friendly and helpful. Costs are good.

Naeba review (submitted before 2003)
Naeba would have to be the most commercialised resorts I have ever been too. It is not necessarily overrated in terms of a resort with a few good runs, but night life leaves a lot to be desired and the term "resort" has to have been penned at Naeba.

Naeba has some nice steeps up the top part of the mountain that can be good on the rare days that it is not clouded up there and you can see

Akakura Onsen review (submitted before 2003)
Myoko Kogen is probably my favorite place to board in Japan outside Hokkaido.

The mountain - which is beautiful - has a number of resorts on it, this being one of them.

I have friends who own a pension at the bottom of the slopes here so I have the chance to always go here and enjoy the resort.

What's it like? Well, a good selection of runs to choose from and generally a nice place. If you go for

Kagura review (submitted before 2003)
Originally a yama-ski area, kagura is less 'resorty' than its neighbors in the Yuzawa area. Best areas for tree-runs seem to be in the kagura area (panorama, giant slalom, tashiro renraku course).

It can get really windy up there, so be sure to layer up!

The only bummer is lack of night-hours.

Maiko Snow Resort review (submitted before 2003)
This place is split into 2 main parts. Unless you like slow lifts and beginner runs, stick to the gondola part (to the left).

Some good long runs here and my fave area is over the top of the hill where there is a "bowl" that gets really good snow usually.

A nice resort that suffers from a lot of beginner snowboarders falling over in front of you. Keep to the upper and left hand side runs for the best snow and space.

Definitely NOT a two day resort as you can comfortably cover the park in 1/2 a day.

2 places, the really small Nunoba right at town level. A few 100 meter lifts and accompanying runs...for beginners only.

And Yuzawa Kogen - go up the ropeway to the runs. Not that many but more difficult. YK joins up with GALA Yuzawa via a ropeway (and GALA in turn to Ishiuchi), making for a big space!

Madarao Kogen review (submitted before 2003)
Not a bad ski field at all, but definately worth getting the pass for Tangram Circus next door as well as not much more expensive.

Try and park in the bottom carpark as it makes getting home much easier.

Lifts fast and mostly covered, some steep runs for the speed freaks. A good alternative to some of the more crowded resorts in the area.

Tsugaike Kogen review (submitted before 2003)
Beginner? This has to be one of the best spots to learn.

Super wide & perfect gradient for the learner.

And when you are ready step up the level a bit, it has a variety of very friendly mid-level runs. For the expert, it doesn't have a lot of steep stuff, but there are a few nice runs. Not much off track stuff, and if it is a heavy powder day, it can be a bit difficult for the beginner,

This is a great resort.

Some interesting runs, a huge area for beginners, a board park and some fantastic powder conditions on the back of the mountain.

Make sure you get up as high as you can, because the snow quality is usually much better.

And I find it less crowded on the right hand side of the mountain (looking up).
