Fasy runs with lots of snowboarders.
Didn't stay at the hotel. Ski Jam is only 3 hours from where I live, so did a day trip. Went on a Thursday, so the lines were good and had plenty of room to ride. I've only ever been to larger places, like Niseko and Nozawa Onsen so Ski Jam seemed kind of small even though it has several runs. Probably just me. It was nice that it was kind of broken into 3 sections, bottom,

Let's Ski Jam!
Having spent the weekend in Fukui city, I decided to visit nearby Ski Jam Katsuyama on the Monday. The biggest resort in the region, I had read that it gets busy at the weekends, especially with people travelling up from Kyoto, Osaka and Nagoya, but this wasn't an issue on this day and I was keen to check out a new resort in an area that I don't know so well. Access from Fukui is an easy and relatively cheap,

Powder fun times!!!
Weather wise this day would have to be one the strangest days I have experienced on the snow ever. The night before and early morning had snow, around 9am the sun started to break through the clouds and we had a couple of hours of sunshine. Around lunch the clouds came back and so did the snow. At times the clouds were low making visibility very bad and the snow was very heavy at times. I got completely covered in

This place would be great on a week day.

Don't even bother with the lower runs unless you're an expert at dodging people.

Thankfully if you make the trek to the upper parts there's enough breathing room. Also, for snowboarders- the beginner's slopes here are so flat you'd wish you had ski poles. The pink (beginner/intermediate) were nice and plentiful. The reds (intermediate) would be black at other resorts. I am still not good enough

This is definitely for beginners. That said, I knew that before I went there and got what I expected. However, me being rusty it was what I was looking for for my first snowboarding of the season. There a basically 2 runs that leave from the same 4p gondola.

The elevation is a bit to low for there to be a lot of powder, I consider myself lucky that although it was a warm (1C?) day with a

We spent two days at Ski Jam, the first was clear and sunny but the second was lots of rain.

The previous week we had been to Nozawa Onsen in Nagano, and so Ski Jam seemed pretty dull.

However, it beats anything in Shiga and is almost as good as Hachi Kita

Ski Jam Katsuyama review
Great mountain for those living in Kansai. Bigger than most other local mountains and if you drive, the double lane highway makes sure that it is 2.5 hours from Kyoto to the mountain, and 2.5 hours back.

Friendly staff, and pretty quiet mid-week. Weekends can be busy but still very tolerable. If there is powder, this mountain can be a lot of fun. If not, there are some fun runs with a few hits here and there

Three of us spent 2 days at Ski Jam at the end of winter vacation. Had a really good couple of days.

Even though our experience and skills differed we found that the variation within runs enabled us to more or less board together. The biggest drawback was the people who seem compelled to stop and for a human blockade across the ridges across the runs. The upper part of the mountain was much more enjoyable with better snow and

Ski Jam can be fun on after a snow storm, when there is some coverage of fresh snow. There's a few places to climb up 50-70 meters off piste, good for turns or making a kicker. However, I recommend going very early when there are big crowds -- i.e. a holiday weekend. Two of us drove up to a full parking lot around 8:45 on a sunday morning. When the lot, which is at the top of the service road

New to Snowboarding I went with a mixed group of skiers & boarders from all levels, all of us had a great time.

The resort itself is very very well organized, has excellent accommodation, restaurants, lockers & toilets.

Previous reviews stated that you need to get there very early in the morning, I didnt agree with this. Our visit was in mid February over a very busy competition period, we arrived there at 10.30 am on a Friday, no rush. Saturday no

Ski Jam Katsuyama review by Pattoriku
In my humble opinion, Ski Jam is the biggest and best spot in Fukui.

Of course, this was 5-7 years ago.. Certainly it's the destination for locals, but for those travelling from Kansai, if you're travelling anyway, you might as well make the long haul up to Nagano for the big stuff. \r\n\r\nThe beauty of this place for the enterprising foreigner, is that, at around noon, all of the skiers who got there at 6am are ready to go home.
