Let's Kokusai!
Visited here on a day trip from Sapporo, using the handy shuttle bus service from one of the downtown hotels, to which I walked from my hostel. The “Bus Pack” cost 4,800Yen which included the return bus journey and day pass. On the day I went the sun was out and warming things up quickly, frustratingly turning the 20-30cm of off-piste snow into sludge. Many of the easily-accessible tree runs were on south-facing slopes so after a few, unsuccessful attempts

Deep fresh powder!!
Just got back from a trip.

As I don't have a car I got the bus from Maruyama (return bus ticket, day lift pass - ¥4,800) and got there at around 9:30am. Today was a Sunday, so quite busy waiting for the gondola. It hadn't snowed for a few days so I had low expectations.....how wrong I was!! I'm not someone that likes to stay on the courses, especially not today because there were MANY people taking lessons blocking

Had a great day today (Sunday) at Kokusai. We got an all day pass and return bus ticket from Sapporo for 4600 yen each which isn't bad. It was a little crowded but there are quite a few runs and they are reasonably wide so it didn't matter too much (although it was pretty crowded at the lodge).

There was lots of powder on the sides of all of the runs and even a few cms on the groomed runs.

Great snow, and a good place to learn, but it would get boring quick for intermediate and higher types..

It was one of my stops during an 8 day Christmas/Newyears trip to Hokkaido.

During that trip I tried Hakodatte-Nanae, Niseko-hirafu, and Sapporo-kokusai.

I must say that it was my favorite. Lots of fresh powder for everyone and not as much as crowded as Niseko.

I really liked the fact that the gondola takes you all the way to the top. The only problem is that the courses in general are a bit short.

The tempreture was around -5...But, that's Hokkaido!

The night course was

Last winter I went to Sapporo during the Snow Festival and spent a day at Sapporo Kokusai resort. It was -9 brr! It was probably because of the snow festival that it was really crowded there, and the runs all ended at the same place. \r\n\r\nBut everyone, from little kids to old people, was really experienced there, and they zoomed down the runs.

Personally I didn't have a good day and Kokusai kicked my ass!

Not bad.

When I went last year the wind almost froze my head but other than that the place was good.

A range of levels.

But beware that the beginners runs basically meant cross-country skiing and most of the intermediate ended in the beginner's runs so you have to be sure to build of your speed to make it to the end without having to take off your skis and walk

I love Sapporo Kokusai! There has been decent snow this season with good trails for skiing and snowboarding.

There are some great backcountry options too for the adventurous.

There are many awesome jumps for catching major air and good facilities for eating and shopping for cheap gear. I think the best deal if you live in Sapporo is to take the subway to the Makomanai station and then take a bus to Kokusai with all-day lift ticket included for around

Maa-maa place if you do not want to venture much outside of Sapporo - probably the best choice if you are thinking that way.

Although you should really take some time out and take the trip to Niseko, Rusutsu, Kiroro or somewhere else bigger.

Kokusai has great runs even for absolute beginners from the very top of the mountain.

There is lots of powder and plenty of off-course opportunities as well as some jumps for the not-so-beginner.

The best thing about Kokusai is that it is usually not too crowded and there is almost always lots of powder.

There doesnt seem to be too much prevention of going off-piste either. And the powder is nice...
