Hachi Kita Kogen resort review by ImAndroo
Hachi Kita is sort of the default boarding destination for folks living in northern Hyogo, due to its fairly central location (when compared to places like Ojiro or Kannabe), variety of difficulties, and size. Having Hachi Kougen included in the lift ticket allows park boarders access to that side of the mountain as well, even if it is kind of time-consuming to get over there from the bottom.

I basically learned to snowboard on Hachi Kita, so I've been over most

Hachi Kita Kogen review by David James
I took a night bus from Kyoto and was greeted by a few inches of powder on the higher slopes. Had a great day - went over the top to Hachi Kogen which is dead boring unless you are a beginner.

Wish I had stayed overnight and had two days there.....next time perhaps

Had the best 2 days at HachiKita/Kogen. Several days of heavy snowfall proceeded the weekend making for some awesome boarding.

The first day was constant snow though there was a few icy patches. The second day, however had deep powder on the sides and even enough down the gelande. There were some brilliant runs on Kita side though there were also times when there were too many people on the slopes.

The only downsides of the weekend were the lines at

Went with my boys for a weekend of riding.

It snowed like hell for two days and there was plenty of fresh lines in the trees all day. Best mountain in Hyogo with decent facilities. Go to the mid-mountain lodge for lunch, toilet breaks, etc... Also, go to the upper parking(second left turn on the downhill after the tunnel), not the lower parking(same road to Sky Valley. It's a longer drive, but the road is better

Moving Northeast along Honshu from the Chugoku region, Hachikita is the first respectable ski area that you'll find, and it's a lot more interesting than many places further North too.

Combined with Hachi kogen, the size is respectable and the variety of terrain is even better. The snow is a little heavier than further north, but when it snows, it dumps. In western Japan its known as being a 'serious' mountain with lots of steeps. Best part

To give perspective, I am an ex-skier/intermediate snowboarder that grew up skiing Whistler and Blackcomb in B.C. Canada.

We had 180cm of cover, decent powder about knee deep early the day on only the top of the hill. Went about 7 times this year and two of the seven had powder, the rest were between icey crap and ok. Not a cold winter so limited coverage.

In Hyogo this is probably the best place to go with a good variety of

Hachi Kita Kogen review
This place has enough lifts and runs to keep everyone happy.

Can get crowded but seems to be more crowded at Hachi Kogen around the snowpark. If you get here early, the half day pass 3,500yen from 7.30am-1pm on weekends is good value. There are some places to find good powder here but on this day the ski patrol had closed part of the mountain and were taking the lift passes off people going out of bounds so we

This is a great resort, but apparently everyone is Hyogo-ken knows about it. This place was super busy.

The runs were very good. On the front side (where the parking is) the runs are long and fast. However it becomes crowded, so expect to wait 20 mins to get on a lift. Another problem is the fact that Hachi Kita does not have a lift that goes from the bottom to the top, which causes more bottlenecks.

I had been told that it was good IF there was snow, and what snow there was... in fact in three seasons of riding in japan and california this was the best snow I've had so far; super light and dusty - more than knee deep powder availablein the trees without even really going out of bounds!

If you're up for rope jumping, even the locals couldn't resist the run under the lift to the top, so possibly not

I think that Hashi Kita is the best snow park in Hyogo.

I live in Kobe, It takes only 2 hours from Kobe by car. In the week end, it is crowded, especially you will have a difficulty to find out a parking space in early February, and I recommend to park at Hachi Kogen next to Hachi Kita connecting at the top of the mountain and you can go to Hachi Kita by lift.
