Great snow interesting terrain
This was my first visit to Hakuba after spending many years at Niseko and Rusutsu, on the island of Hokkaido.
I was impressed!
The terrain was better than I expected and more varied.
We skied the resorts of Happo One, Goryu, Hakuba 47 and Tsugaike. We missed Cortina and Iwataki because of bad weather.
My preference was Happo One, probably because on the days we skied there we had mostly good dry powder.
I would have liked to have spent more time in the trees

Awesome birthday
Thanks to snowjapan we had a free lift ticket for hakuba goryu.

We spent my partners birthday there and it was a great day.

Goryu and 47 are joining mountains and over great terrain choices.

We found pockets of fresh in a bowl up top cause the top hadn't been open the day before. Great surprise for a day without fresh snowfall.

We love to ski!
We just returned from a wonderful week long ski adventure in JaPow! Two dads and four young adults. We are expert Colorado skiers and boarders. What else can we say - we loved everything about our trip to Japan, the resorts, the snow, the acomodations and the food. It snowed about four feet (130 cm) during the week.

We spent four days in Niseko, skiing five different resorts, and then Four days in Hakuba. We recommend

Happy at Happo
I went to Happo-one on Jan 26 and had a great day. The snow wasn't the best, as it was a little bit warm (3 degrees) but there was still some good deeper pockets to be found in the trees.

I was surprised at how much larger the mountain was compared to the other Hakuba resorts. You could definitely spend a few days there without getting bored of the terrain. The runs were pretty long and the grooming was excellent.

Awesome first trip to Japan
Was my first trip to Japan as a whole and I'm glad I chose to visit Nagano/Hakuba for snowboarding.

The slopes were well taken care of and freshly groomed daily. Runs were smooth when the resort opened every morning.

Getting here was easy, travel time wasn't too bad only about 2.5 hours from Tokyo. Left Tokyo in the morning at about 8.00am and was checked-in and snowboarding by 12.30pm.

Hakuba town in general was very tourist friendly, maps and brochures everywhere to

Snowtime!
Habuba is not your classic European or North American ski resort.

First, the not so great. As is clear before going the hills are not linked in the way you would anticipate them if you ski regularly in Europe, but a handy and easy bus service is there to ferry you to your selected day’s ski area. This while adding to the hassle does create the variety you may seek.

Neither is the lift infrastructure what you might

The best snowboard experience I’ve ever had.
My snowboarding background is all mountain and have spent most of my snowboarding holiday experiences in Queenstown and Wanaka in New Zealand. I’m at an advanced level but really just out to have some nice runs. Hakuba was quite a surprise both in size, choices and quality.

I’d heard good comments about Iwatake even though everyone is always talking Cortina so I didn’t really have any expectations about the day. It was grey but snowing lightly. Once at the

Something for everyone
This is a huge resort and sometimes a little difficult to navigate. One wrong turn and you end up at the bottom of a lift you hadn't intended to be at or possibly going down a black mogul run when you thought you were on a red run...

But if you keep you wits about you this resort is a lot of fun.

I'm an intermediate skier and was with 8 snow boarders (from beginner to advanced) and everyone got something

Great tree runs
First time at Hakuba 47 and we were greeted with white out conditions. Began to snow by early afternoon and the designated tree skiing area had some good terrain to ride.

Had a great day here after we worked out the best runs. Long groomers and good off piste terrain made it good for all levels of ability

Wonderfully surprised by the skiing at this resort
Having not skied here before we were all very pleasantly surprised by what Iwatake had to offer.

Generally more cruisy than Happo One with most of the skiing below the treeline, Iwatake reminded me of the Ski-Welt region of Austria.

However, the Ace in the pack was the fantastic back bowl at Wood Park / View 1 off the back of Mt. Iwatake which was full of the soft stuff during 2 of our 3 days here.

My son and

Great resort (with 47) which became awesome after big dumps
My wife's favourite as it has perhaps the flattest of flat greens and we were greeted by a Kamashiko on the first run one morning on the green that winds down to 47 base.

Son (boarder) loved the Snow Park

Daughter loved E1 red.

Bit disappointed that the adventure course above Goryu was not open as I have fond memories of it from last year.

Hit some great powder on the sides of E2 & E3 at 47 during and after some heavy

Fantastic
Further to my review of Happo One based on our visit last year, this report is based on this year's January visit. I will also post separate reports for Goryu/47, Iwatake and Cortina as I skied those resorts on this trip too.

Starting with Happo One (skied 3 days) this really is the biggest and best in the Hakuba Valley with something for everyone.

BTW one of the days skied here was courtesy of SnowJapan's very kind awarding of a lift
