Friendly Feel
I really like this little place. We came last year on a snowy day on a day trip from Furano 2012 and had a ball - especially after being hemmed in over there. So I have to admit to a soft spot for the place.

This year we were met with a gorgeous blue bird day. There had been 5-10cm the night before, not quite enough to fill in old tracks but enough to refresh things a bit. The day started

Kamui Ski Links near Asahikawa, Hokkaido opened yesterday so I thought I'd go and check it out.

It's a medium sized resort with a fun mix of pistes, and a very liberal off piste policy.

It's only 3000 yen all day, and despite being a Sunday, it wasn't too crowded.

I recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fun day in the snow

I went to Kamui on a day trip from Furano last year (2010) and although there was no new snow, it was a beautiful, bluebird day and I really enjoyed it, vowing to return when there was fresh pow. That day came to pass this January and it was worth the wait!!

So, the good things:-

1.
Going off-piste!

Unlike some other resorts (ie, those beginning with F and ending with o), Kamui positively encourages off-piste riding. It's not owned by a big hotel

After a forty minute bus ride from furano we arrived to a perfect bluebird day of smooth white untracked snow. It looked a bit flat and small, but no worries! I grabbed the gondola and headed straight up. Being the child that i am, the first thing i did was found the line under the gondola and played on that. It was honestly a riot. Knee to waist deep, lots of bumps and drops, and an awesome little pow field

In keeping with other reviewers, I've got nothing but good things to say about this place, apart from having less snow than other areas at the time we visited.

Nice amount of vertical, some great fast and quite long groomers, well planned lift lay-out and best of all welcoming ride all areas policy.

When we first pulled up on the Sunday of a long weekend, things looked glum. The gondola line was snaking back down the hill and for Hokkaido the

In addition to the huge groomed pistes, the "no out of bounds" policy gives access to heaps of tree runs and the powder stashes to be found just off the piste.

Highly disorganised restaurant at top of goldola line is the main downside to this very nice "one day" resort

I have nothing but nice things to say about this place. Still a bit gutted that we only gave one day to it on our whirlwind Hokkaido tour.

When we pulled up, our first impression was that this is a small mountain at low elevation and it was clear that it hadn\\'t snowed for a few days, despite the fact we'd left Sapporo in a snowstorm the night before. Also, bus loads of high school students were arriving at the same

Lots of dry poweder and no one to ski it up before you get to it.

On top of the the lift tickets are about $25, can't beat that price anywhere

Well what can I say...Niseko has always been my favorite resort but, we have hit Kamui a bunch of times in the last 2 years and Kamui rocks...

Price is right, way low, no crowds usually, great snow and ok terrain...The ski center has rocking music and the lifts too...The powder here can be really good sometimes as it is colder and drier here than Niseko...

One of the days we arrived it was snowing lightly but had snowed heavily all

Haven't been to Kamui in a few years, but made a couple of dozen trips there in the 90s, booking cheap packages that included flight, downtown Asahikawa hotel & bus.

Great ski area for anyone in the range of beginner to upper intermediate; not too interesting for experts. Can be a bit cold if the wind is kicking up, but scenic and typically good snow. Yo-yo'ing the gondola can be a lot of fun, but the runout toward the bottom of

Kamui is a great local hill, friendly staff and excellent Hokkaido light pow.

Also, a new bar in Asahikawa called the den can help you get equipment, rides, and really good food and beer!

See ya next season
