A good place for families and beginners.
I'll start with the positive. Muikamachi Ski Resort is a good place to bring the family. It has enough going on for kids that don't ride to be entertained all day. They have a nice kids room with a Super Famicom (American name is Super Nintendo) as well as a ball pit and lots of toys. Down the hall from this room is an onsen (hot spring) bath to get clean after riding or just to relax in for the

Muikamachi Ski Resort review by Crunky Muncher
I'm giving Minami a 3. It was a solid resort with some good slopes, but not enough variety.

But for all that it was a great place to start the season. Blue skies all day on Saturday led to icy conditions on a slightly (in my opinion) over-groomed course. But the lack of people there meant we had the place to ourselves. There was no waiting at lifts, no congestion at the top, and plenty of space on the slopes.

The topmost

Muikamachi Ski Resort review by James Gowans
I came here many times in my first season last year and still enjoy it. It's very accesible (3kms from the highway) and prices are reasonable too. But the main advantage of this ski-jo over the bigger resorts is that it's normally pretty quiet, so you have plenty of space on the slopes.

The courses here are fairly short, but there is a good enough variety to suit begginner - intermediate boarders. Advanced boarders may want somewhere with more challenging sections.

Haven't been there this year but was boarding there last Feb. and quite enjoyed it...for a small place.

Found an area between 2 runs that had deep, soft powder that ran into some trees for a little "in the woods" action.

Not very crowded and easy to get to by car

This is a happening ski-jo.

I am a beginning boarder and find Minami to be perfect for my level. I am learning how to carve, cruise and groove on sweet, but short runs. Minami is more of a beginner's boarding zone than any other resort that I have checked out this far, which makes it happenin'. I would love to try skiing here also, but I haven't had the chance yet, maybe next week.

Good carvin' to you all, peace.

Local resort up on the hill behind Muikamachi town. All the marks of a local resort too - farmers as lift operators, food in the restaurant....but a fair place anyway for those of us living in that area. If you are in the area, stick to the bigger and better places in Yuzawa and Shiozawa for more fun.
