Thanks guys
Thank you to SnowJapan and HPG Hanazono Powder Guide for the prize of guiding for a day at Niseko.

Myself and my companions from The Old Farts Militia have been coming to Niseko for the past three years and have experienced the powder and tree skiing within the resort however we recognised we had neither the equipment or the experience to go out of bounds and experience the back country. That’s where Peter our guide came in.

After some test

Niseko Grand Hirafu review btyMick Rich
I had heard many things about Niseko, both good and bad, so after 2 seasons based in Furano, decided I should see it for myself.

With a mid-March arrival, I was expecting less crowds and Spring-like conditions but I hadn't bargained on the Tohoku earthquake and consequent exodus of people and cancellations.

I based myself in Hirafu and spent the first few days exploring the Hirafu and Hanazono ski areas, having scored a cheap Hirafu pass. The slopes were relatively quiet

That place is what I call a proper ski resort. I had an awesome experience and I'll be back for sure. Anyone who goes there should hike the peaks because the snow on the way down is the best.

On a sour note, I get mad when I think about how much money and effort I've wasted on going to Australian snow fields. I am no longer prepared to pay top dollar to ride crap snow after my Japan experience.

YOU

I have been here for 4 years now the last 3 with family. 2010 was the best yet and Niseko lived up to its reputation big time. This place is just one huge snow machine! I don't think I have so many consecutive bottomless powder days - and some of our best skiing was in resort this year. Having said that we also got great snow out of every gate. The icing on the cake this years was Mizuno no

Great place loved the snow.

This is my first Japanese resort and I guess I expected it to be a bit more efficient. (Lifts linking up better).

It is not really that well established yet.

Stayed in really nice apartment at The Vale but couldn't see how they can justify the cost.\r\n\r\nDon't get me wrong I had some great days in the powder and if I was alone or with the boys it would be superb.

But it is not really set up

Niseko was the schizznigg maximus!!

This place far exceeded my expectations simply by amount of snow, terrain and overall experience. (Reviewing mountain as one entire area covering Hirafu, Higa's and Annurpurni).

After eighteen months without snow, a new stick under arm, I arrived straight from working twelve hours a day in 45C heat in northern Australia to boarding twelve hours a day in -10C and perfect powder. Feeding frenzy, was I in for the first few days.

After a superb clear first

I had heard a lot about niseko area over the past 7 yrs but had never got there. I'd always opted for Fernie and Whistler in BC, Canada.

We made it to Niseko this yr and were blown away. The village is awesome and has piles of snow everywhere. The temperature never got above -4 and it snowed every night bar one, in some capacity. We found fresh lines everyday (even as late as 3pm) and we were treated to one

Coming almost straight from one of the worst australian seasons on record to 2 days of sunny powder in northen Japan was unreal.

On the 3rd day, grass started to become visible lower down, but none the less, the top of the mountain was great an the sun was shining for the 3rd day in a row, in a place that recieve 2 sunny days a month on average.

Woke up early next day, it did not stop snowing for the rest

My first trip to Japan did not dissapoint. Three days where we had amazingly deep powder. Dry as anything. There is some great off piste skiing to be had.

The Japanese are the most friendly peolple on earth and the village life is great with plenty of good restaurants and bars. I had heard that it can be quite expensive but you can get away with about ten dollars for lunch and about fifteen for dinner. Although I was not

This was my second visit. The first one was a few years back and it was so windy that I couldn't enjoy a thing.

This time was different. Still windy, but alternating with sun, snow, blue skies, dense clouds, and heavy snow.

We got tickets for Grand Hirafu, but boarded the actual slope only once. Most of the time we hiked up to the very top and boarded the slopes left of Hanazono. Fantastic powder. Unfortunately about a couple hundred people got

Awesome place. I think it helped also being our first visit to Japan. The snow was packed yet enjoyable to get the boarding feeling back. Then on day 3 it snowed and snowed and snowed.

The powder here is fantastic and has now set a high bar with which to compare in the future. As a regular of Thread-bare in Australia this really was a pleasant change!

The accomodation options are great with super access to the slopes. The food
