Small but Entertaining
We knew heading out we were taking a risk with the snow conditions, since it had been a warm, snowless week, but we decided to give Makado a shot anyway due to its extremely close proximity to us (45 minutes!).

On arrival, the snow was about how I expected it to be, very icy and with minimal coverage. Not great for beginners, but still rideable.

The lodge is big, much bigger than I think a mountain this size probably needs, and had

Good Family Resort- Something for Everyone
I had the chance to join a friend in Noheji for a trip to Makado Onsen. While small, the resort is still larger than Kamafuseyama (hard not to be) with more courses and lifts.

The weather was pretty crappy early morning with heavy winds and heavy snow, but by the time we were ready to head out, most of it settled down and made for decent weather the rest of the day.

The lodge itself is very large and has all the

Makado Onsen review by Jetnfast
I took my wife skiing for the first time today and the conditions were mainly good for both skiing and snowboarding.

The POSITIVE: It was not crowded at all for a weekday. The runs were very wide open and it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Also, the poswder was EXCELLENT, it was absolutely perfect snow!

THE BAD: The conditions were a little windy at first with blowing snow, with off and on poor visibility. At one point the

Nice family oriented, low-key resort.

Offers military discount, just bring your ID. Lowest cost food menu I've seen, and everything is translated to English so it's easy to read. Good place for learners/nice place for a family to spend the day. Unlike Okunakayama it does not offer free lift tickets for kids under 8, but from Misawa AB you won't pay expressway tolls so it's awash. Learning slope is slightly steep on the top (compared to

Great place for newbies.

Careful when you drive, especially with those heavy snow flurries.

I definetly would bring the family back perhaps on a weekday

Makado Onsen review by SJBoarder
Makado was really good, compared to how it has usually been in the winters here.

Looking at yesterday's snow depth of 155cm, it was packed in only a few areas (mainly towards the bottom slopes) - and today's depth being 160cm I'd love to be back up there right now. It's good for being close to Misawa when you really got the need for snowboard speed, but obviously there are some other places (Appi with the green 5.5km [3.4 mile]

Nice place to get some turns in and to just be out doing what you love!!

If you don't feel like driving very far this is a pretty good place. A place that is out to serve the best service for skiers/boarders!

Located just an hour from Misawa Air Base, Makado is a great place for beginners.

The top lift (not visible from the lodge) will take you to the best run on the mountain. Both sides are very steep in many places making for some sweet jumps.

Great place if you want to introduce someone to skiing/snowboarding.

A favorite place for several reasons, cheap season lift tickets, friendly, friendly staff that is very family oriented.

Great place for beginers, they actually will let you or your child walk on the lift and stop or slow down so you can get off in safety.

Small, but not crowded and did I say friendly

Small resort, just three lifts and a few runs
Small resort, just three lifts and a few runs. The cafeteria food is ok, grounds are a little run down and grungy. People are very friendly and helpful. Costs are good.
