Great beginner resort!
We started coming here in early December of 13', not long after the resort opened. It's very conveniently located for us so it was an obvious choice.

It has a very wide, very accommodating beginner hill that was a great starter spot for my wife and I, with my only complaint being that heavy traffic on this hill can leave the snow conditions less than desirable for beginners. Especially early season the bunny hill feels more like concrete than snow about

Excellent Value
Medium size ski resort, with nice powder snow. Lower slopes are excellent for beginners, with wide open slopes. Even on the busy Coming of Age long weekend there was plenty of space, especially away from the main slope. Upper slopes are more challenging, with long runs available.

Had a small snow park, not enough for the advanced boarder..

If coming by train, there are some cheap deals with Iwate Galaxy Railway, but watch out for infrequent connecting bus services at

Okunakayamakogen is my main resort.

Cheap, uncrowded most of the time, easy to get to. Ok now is when the complaint part starts. Around the 1st of January they only had a 20cm base and stayed open. But in March they closed with a base of 150cm. I guess Okunakayama is not interested in making money. This was so disapointing to find out after I had drove there. But APPI is interested in making money

Great resort that treats its customers well.

Small, friendly family-run atmosphere has fewer options but more character than some of the larger resorts nearby.

Could help themselves by opening terrain under the lifts and in the trees to skiing and snowboarding

Small resort. Wide gradual slope for beginners.

Short runs and a small park.

Not worth a day trip

A nice small resort with respectable runs, Okunakayama offers a great getaway spot for a day's outing.

Fun but short runs keep you busy all day

This was an excellent day to go.

Although there was a long line at the bottom lift, we had an excellent time.

The beginner slopes are excellent for beginners. The slope angle is just steep enough so they can have fun.

The back slopes are excellent.

Had a wonderful time. Will be returning on the 16th

Nice groomed runs but they don't like people going into the trees which seems kind of old fashioned and is very annoying for people who like POW.

There where good stashes to be had and people seemed to the ignore the announcements which I think is the best way to change their attitude here.

This resort is a nice resort area with a mixture of runs for both beginners and intermediate.

It is not as large as some resorts such as Appi, but its closer proximity and very reasonable rates (especially with discount coupons) make an ideal location for a family ski day.

Food prices are also quite reasonable.

This was one crowded skijo!

I had to constantly watch out for other skiers and boarders. But the lifts were really efficient so the lines weren't always that long. There wasn't an apparent bunnyslope but there were two really insane slopes that were aimed at really advanced skiers and boarders. Prices weren't that bad as well. A half day pass only costed 1500 yen. Also, if you feel that you have not seen gaijins in awhile, then this is the

A relatively large 'machi' (town) resort.... but small compared to APPI etc.

The price was reasonable at only 1500 for a half day/3000 for a full day.

Not for advanced....but it offered up some reasonable (yet tight with the lack of snow this year 2001-2002 season) tree skiing.... although it meant often ducking ropes (but we were never chased) (Beware of the camera 2/3 of the way up the kona-yuki run lift (far skier's left)

The onsen after (not the main bldg) as
