Early and late skiing
This place hidden in it's own corner of Niigata Prefecture opens early season and late season. Usually it closes between mid January and mid March. I don't know if it is because of particularly huge amounts of snow or just that the costs involved in keeping the roads open in mid-winter would just be too silly, but that's the deal.

So it's known as the first and last place to go in a season for some folk.

I have been

After checking other reader reviews on my return from Okutadami, I thought I'd add my opinion as it doesn't seem to get the best write-up from a lot of people.

Despite the fact that we were there in late April, there was ample snow all the way to the bottom of the runs. It was a little heavy and moist off the groomers, but what else would you expect in expect in April? Even so, it was very skiable and on

Being a beginner, I can't really give a full run down on the place, but I had a great time.

It was pretty quiet when I went (a Monday) and we had the slopes to ourselves mostly. Best thing was that after the first time on the lifts they didn't check / ask for passes so it was dirt cheap

I couldn't believe that I was going to be boarding at a resort in late May. But here I was.

This place always opens until around mid-May I think but this year there is still a whole lot of snow still around and they are open until the 28th May!

It was fairly busy, but it's only a small place so I don't suppose it takes many people to make it look that way. Not too busy to spoil

They had so much snow, it snowed 40cm between 12pm and 3:30pm. If you can`t ride powder don't go.

On a big dump day, be smart. If you are not an above average rider or skier you will get bored on the 1 groomed run or put yourself in danger free riding

Good for an early season blast but not a great deal there.

Probably get bored after a few hours.

Wouldn't recommend it to beginners either

As you might know, this place is only open in Dec and early Jan, closes until mid March and then opens again for mid March until May.

We went last week and the snow was decent for the time of year, but it's a small resort and wasn't worth the journey we had to actually get there

Small place in the center of Niigata, about an hour north of the famous Yuzawa area.

Nothing special, apart from the fact that its open until Golden Week. I went there April 15th and had a decent time - still lots of snow around (about 180cm they were claiming) and wasn't too bad at all.

In the peak of the season, go to another resort. But late season, this place is an option.

This is excellent for boarders.

Why? Because it has the best snowboard park I have seen in this area yet.

If you're not into jumping etc. then this isn't so good. This is a very small resort and the 2 main runs turn into moguls! And car sick people beware - the drive up isn't so nice (but very interesting).
