Okutone Snow Park review by USN Elcid
I went by myself on a day trip starting from Yokosuka (south of Tokyo), and it took about 5 hours to get there and 5 hours to get back. Going by train from Yokosuka costs about 7500Y each way, assuming you use the buses to get to the mountain from Jomo Kogen shinkansen station. You have to take the bus from Jomo Kogen to Minakami station (600Y) and then from Minakami right to the mountain(440Y). Alternately, a taxi ride

Okutone Snow Park review
Quikly dropped in here for a day on the way home from Niigata and managed to get a 5 hour ticket for only 3,000. A nice price...

The courses are all quite steep which makes for some nice fast runs. They are also relatively wide making it easy to dodge people. On this particular day it wasn't very crowded though, so this wasn't an issue.

Lots of snowboarders at this place and lots of jumps, terrain parks and rails.

This place is close to Tokyo but the snow was pretty good. We went on a weekday so it was almost deserted, no line ups all day. The runs are wide and there are plenty of jumps and rails interspersed between, the best one has 3 rails and two jumps on one run at the very top.

The lift ticket is probably a bit overpriced 4000yen for the day, but the resort opens at 6:00 and you can board until 5:00pm

Was on my way to Tenjendaira but forgot my snow chains. Frustrated by that I found Okutone to be pleasant.

The lifts open at 6am!! So when I got there at 9 I missed 3 hours of fun.

It is a small area catering for mainly snowboarders or new schoolers so lots of jumps and rails around.

The top part is flat and perfect for beginners, but learn quick because it gets steeper towards the bottom, although it never gets really steep.

The bottom

Me and my boy E-luv get up there ard we are looking for the changing room then we see all these people crowned in this little room like sardines and realized this was the changing area!

Unless you are the size of a 2 year old, no westener is ever gonna be comfortable in this place. Also the lifts are pretty bad too - really old style. You can get hung up in there pretty bad and land

Nowhere to escape the masses, not good to take your boarding virgin mates as hire equipment is not good and the courses are pretty tricky and steep. Not very long so not that challenging either.

Small park. But ok for 'improving' park shredders.

Landed my first table top, but I didn`t rule.

Close enough to Tokyo to attract the student hords, if that's what you like

Too many beginner boarders from Tokyo - forget this field for anything other than practicing your boarding and your chatting up lines in Japanese.

Basically an unpleasant place that tries to be cool and succeeds for the shallow.

Go to Tenjin or Houdaigi nearby if you're a skier

Good jumps and rails. Not a good place for beginners, though
