Onikoube review by Sang
I've been to Onikoube fours times so far in the 2010 season and the conditions varied each time. The first time was decent with a nice amount of snow and only intermittent ice patches. The second time was extremely snowy and had frequent whiteouts. The third and fourth time was very icy, which meant pain during every fall.

The resort itself is on the small side, but it's cheap and a one day pass comes with a 1,000 yen food voucher

This is my favorite resort in Japan.

It beats every place in Iwate, Miaygi and Yamagata that I've been including Appi.

I've been going to Onikobe all through 2005/2006 and this weekend was reinforced by an awesome weekend. Stayed at one of the pensions as part of the resort and was first up the mountain both days. The park seems under used but there are some jumps to do, a box and rails. Some nice wide runs for

Onikobe is a great place to go if you live in the area. It is on the smaller side, but, for a little resort, it has much to offer the laid-back rider/skiier.

There are a few short and steep areas for thrill seekers, but mostly meandering slopes and trails.

If you strike it lucky and go with friend on a powdery day with few crowds, Onikobe can be a full and non-stop outing of quality snow time.

A bit of a trek from Sagae in Yamagata but well worth the trip.

A big selection of runs varying from wide open beginner slopes to steep tree lined runs further up with piles of deep powder on.

A good number of lifts if they are all open

Onikobe is a smallish resort near the hot spring town of Naruko. 7 dual lifts, nothing high tech. Wide beginner slopes (often packed with people) on the weekends, with narrower more technical sections near the summit. Worth going just for the drive if you live in the area, the view of Naruko dam is nice.

This is a great resort in Miyagi Ken.

It has a few good tree runs which are usually left untracked all day, and one good sized steepish run which is great for early morning freshies. The full day lift pass is only 3,600 yen including a ticket for 1000 yen worth of food at the resort (using a repeater ticket - given away free, each time you go).

There are also a few gaijin instructors there this season. Give it a
