Okushiga Kogen review by lin
My own mistake but I staid at Okushiga Kogen then it is skier only area.

Had to take the shuttle bus and then wasted time so next time I'll stay at ichinose instead! Okushiga Kogen is very very quiet at night, you stay at the hotel watching tv and that's all. At Yakebitai and Ichinose, slopes are well groomed but you can also find a few slopes with moguls playground.

Suitable for beginners and pros

Shiga Kogen Okushiga Kogen review by Highlandjin
North western tip of gigantic Shiga-Kogen. Easy access to Yakebitai and other ares of Shiga Kogen.

Okushiga slopes are facing east/north. So the snow conditon is generally very good and give you a fantastic view of Japan alps from the top. When we visited it was right after snow fall so the condition was really excellent with super blue skies.

Absolutely no queue for the lift/gondlas.

This is the place where the imperial family enjoy skiing. So you can

Beautiful resort.

They have a delicious Italian restaurant, great for kids! Little expensive though but we really enjoyed it! Because it was before Christmas we were the only ones on the slopes! Great! But a little too difficult for young kids who ski for first time.

We managed to get them on the ski lift and after few days they could ski down the slope but they didn't have any childrens gelende.

Anyway, we had great time, no disco's,

A top & large ski resort in Japan.

Good slopes, snow perfect, weather very good.

Going back there soon again!

I may have been having a bad day that day, but I didn't really like this place.

You would think that with all those different places at one resort, you could find at least one half empty run, but the place was packed.

We found out later that it was a Japanese holiday

Shiga Kogen is a great place to go for a few days skiing (or boarding).

We like Okushiga as it is a skiers only resort and so suits us fine. Good runs and although it is not a huge place in itself, it is of course linked to Yakebitaiyama at the top which in turn is linked to the rest of the Shiga Resort area. We stayed in Okushiga/Yakebitaiyama for 1 and a half days and on the third day

Ski the gondola line - pretty amazing after a dumping. Some decent jumps and what-not.

Beware the avalance plates within the first and last 50 metres of of the gondola stations. But you shouldn't be skiing in sight of those anyway. :-)

Great place for skiers.

Bad place for boarders (not allowed).

If you are a skier, head over this area when you hit Shiga Kogen - it is worth it.

This is a good skiers hill at the far north (?!) of the Shiga Kogen area.

Of course you can go to the other parts of the Shiga Kogen interlinked resort, but I usually stay here and Yakebitaiyama - it has all I want....
