Tomamu 2014
I made a couple of trips to Tomamu this year, one of which was thanks to the Snow Japan giveaway ticket.

I'd say Tomamu is a good medium sized resort which isn't actually that difficult to get to from the Sapporo area, either by train or by car via the Expressway.

There are two sides of the resort but I've only ever been on the gondola side, lookers left of the mountain. At the top of the hill there is an

Ice-bahn Scuppers Tomamu Fun
After winning some tickets from Snowjapan (and getting a re-up from unclaimed tickets!! domo!), me and some mates piled into a car and headed east from Sapporo to Tomamu. With the weather the way it has been recently we certainly weren't expecting to find any blower powder conditions, we were dead set ready for some spring slush! Unfortunately, nobody thought to tell Tomamu!! The recent conditions in the Sapporo region has been warm and sunny, resulting in some ace soft,

Fifth year in a row with our family!!!
This will be our fifth year in a row to Tomamu. First time we went, our son a daughter(twins) were 3 years old. what a wonderful place for families it is. my kids fell in love right away. we were able to teach them to ski and board in the kids park. then on the last day took them snowmobiling. we live in okinawa so needless to say, not much snow here. just by going to Tomamu once a year

Hoshino Resort Tomamu review
I visited Tomamu with some friends a few Sundays ago.

Here are my thoughts:-

The good things:-

1.
The off-piste terrain/policy. Even though there was no fresh snow and it was crusty off-piste and between the trees, you could see that Tomamu would be brilliant on a powder day. The trees are much better spaced than the (fairly) nearby resorts of Furano and Kamui plus the registration system they've got in place for off-piste riding means that you

One of the best family holidays I have had. Tomamu was a great place to take kids. There is a toboggan run and children's play area if the kids are too young to ski.

The snow conditions were perfect and there weren't many skiers on the slopes, even though we were there in high season (between Christmas and New Year). The food was also very good, and there was a good selection in terms of both prices and variety.

We

We arrived at Shin Chitose to find that we were the only people booked on the coach. Great, a 50 seater coach to ourselves. The journey to the resort was enjoyable.

For a 5-star, resort, it is a typical 5-star resort with facilties galore. There is EVERYTHING you would ever want for a ski holiday within the reoort. Heli, cat, snowmobile, Egnlish speaking guide/instructors, kid's park, kid's school, creche, ice rink, heated indoor swimming pool, ice hotel,

We arrived at lunchtime, checked straight in and were on the chairs straight after. If you stay in the Tower or the Galleria there are lifts outside the buildings. If you are in any of the other accomomodation you will probably probably need to use the free shuttle buses that come every 15 mins. The resort is very spread out. There were very few european people there, we only met 1 American and one Australian family in

First trip of the winter and the whole group was very happy with everything, flight from Tokyo then just over an hour on the train, bus was waiting for us at the station and we were in our room inside 15 minutes.

Lifts operating 900-1600 first day it snowed heavy all day. Website said 40cm and we were given the option to refund at no cost, so glad we did not.

We saw maybe 20 people the first day, over 13

This is a pretty surreal place. We had not planned on going there, but we ran into a well traveled Hokkaido skiier that called it the most underrated resort in Japan.

I won't go that far, but I definitely had a great time there. It is an over the top resort by all measures. Ice Bar, Wave Pool, 40 story hotels - over the top!

That being said I have never stayed on the 35th

We had a group of 10 experienced skiers.

It took us 5 days to track out the back O.B. areas. rating 3+ (out of 5)

Food excellent at the various japanese eateries.\r\n\r\nThe piste is moderately intermediate & can be found anywhere.

Would I go back? Yes, if freshies were on

I wasnt really prepared for the "resort" aspect of this place. You are essentially stranded in a huge complex, there is no town to wander in (or venture out for real food). This is especially a problem when you like good food, as this resort has worse food than an airline! Free breakfast coupons, but not worth getting up for. Bad food, and also expensive.

The mountain itself, however, was great---lots for intermediates, and the snow cat operation for more advanced
