Akita Hachimantai is a small ski hill located on the north-western slopes of Mt Hachimantai in Kazuno city, in the north-eastern region of Akita Prefecture.
Akita Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region of northern Honshu. Akita faces the Sea of Japan in the west and is bordered by Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi and Yamagata prefectures from north to south. The region has cold winters and there are numerous ski hills located around the prefecture, though most of them are small scale with just one or two lifts.

Akita Hachimantai is just over 27km from the Kazuno Hachimantai IC exit on the Tohoku Expressway.
From the IC exit turn left onto Route 282 and after less then 4km turn right onto Route 341. After about 17.5km on the road, turn left onto Prefecture Road 23 at the signpost to head up to the base of the ski hill.
At the time of writing (mid May), almost all ski resorts in Japan have closed for the 2016-2017 season.
