Sannokura is located in Kitakata city in the north western region of Fukushima Prefecture and quite close to the border with Yamagata Prefecture.
Fukushima Prefecture is composed of three main regions - the Hamadori region to the east (including the Pacific Ocean coastline), the Nakadori region (the central area) and the Aizu region (the Western mountainous region). Many of the ski and snowboard resorts in the prefecture are found on or near Mt Bandai and Mt Adatara to the north of Lake Inawashiro. Most of the others can be found scattered across the western region of the Aizu region or to the south-west of Lake Inawashiro.

The Aizu Wakamatsu IC on the Banetsu Expressway is about 31km from Sannokura.
From the Aizu Wakamatsu IC exit, head north towards Kitakata city on Route 121. Follow Route 121 for about 26km, past central Kitakata and through to Atsushio Onsen. Turn left at the sign for 'Sannokurakogen'. Sannokura is about 5km off Route 121.
