Sad news for those looking forward to Furano's eagerly anticipated 50th Year Anniversary Season Opening. Hard rains falling throughout the night and into the mid-morning hours have all but trashed the 40cm of snow we had sitting on the slopes yesterday morning. The rain has waned for now, but showers are expected to continue through the evening, possibly heavy at times.

Proposed schedule for Ski Lift Operations as of this morning:

19th (Saturday) Closed
20th (Sunday) Closed
21st (Monday) Open?

Ski Resort Staff will look at the conditions Sunday night, and make a decision on whether or not to open on Monday morning.

The good news is that with unseasonably warm temperatures pushing through the region this deep into November, you know that bitterly cold winds from Siberia are right behind the edge of this front, pushing up all that warm air like a plow. As soon as this front passes through, we should be looking at snow, snow and more snow. Right now, the changeover to the white stuff is expected to take place tomorrow night, with significant snow in the forecast for almost every day next week. With below freezing temperatures heading our way, staff will be able to throw some man-made snow up on the slopes to bulk up the base and speed up the onset of the season.
