The rain has passed for now. Furano is currently drying out in the afternoon sun after a morning of rain showers. There wasn't nearly as much precipitation as anticipated, and the town is still awash in white. As temperatures prepare to plummet, be careful driving on the slushy-iced roads come nightfall. It's 5 degrees as of 3pm, but the thermometer will be taking a sharp downwards turn very soon. In a few hours we should see below-freezing temps and some serious snow start to churn up in the area.

With these beautiful, baby-blue skies out my window right now, nothing could look farther from the truth, but all the weather forecasting sources are saying we are in for some significant snow tonight. Expect the wintry weather to continue all through the day on Friday and into Saturday, effectively taking back everything that the rain did today. On the top of the mountain (40cm base), we saw mostly a wintry mix, so no real damage done there, but the foot of the mountain (20cm base) did see some rain, so be prepared for a brittle crust to develop as things cool down for the evening.

If you're in it for the powder, Friday and Saturday are going to big days to be out on the mountain.
