Continued heavy snow fall all day yesterday and through the night has brought us some great powder here in the Hakuba valley. The cloud level has gone up and the visibility on the mountain this morning is excelent. The winds were calm to light from the north yesterday meaning very nice light and fluffy snow on the hill. The winds will pick up today and clear out the clouds and leave us with sunny skies for tomorrow. The week end is looking great for soft groomed on the slopes.

With new snow fall of over 50 cm's in the Alpine areas with in the last 24 hours hazard is High. The new snow is over riding the February 1st sun crust on Solar aspects and is resting on top of 25 cm's of past well preserved light snow that it self is over riding a wind crust. Compresion tests from 3 days ago were producing Easy results down 25cm. The added wieght on this low density layer will still be unsettled today and has the possibility of producing deep soft slab avalanches. Take due caution as temperatures rise and southern slopes are hit with solar radiation today.

Travel Advisory:

Be aware of and very cautious of slabs that are already forming due to solar exposure, past rapid acumulation of starom snow and with increased winds today. With rapid loading on all aspects we will see pockets of old surface snow on top of wind slab give way to soft slabs of 65 cm's plus. Take due care in steep terrain especially around rock out crops.
