October already, how fast the time moves on. We're into full-on autumn mode here in Hakuba now with fine views, lovely comfortable conditions bordering on chilly/cold - depending on who you speak to! I'll go with just about right for my liking, but heaters are being prepared and/or used.

Summer started off hot but starting around late July we had a lot of rain and generally saw more rain than usual over the summer. It remained hot but not remarkably so.... so people coming from the cities were coming here to enjoy our relatively cooler climate and get out on the mountains. The end of summer saw lots of fine conditions as well and we generally had a good September weather wise. The few typhoons that visited Japan seemed to miss us, so we were spared any problems there.

So.... here we are in early October. And I bring some good news:

Yes, the first snowfall of the season on the mountains and the tops of the mountains are looking nice and white today - the snow line was down to around 2000m or so. The mountains were actually covered in cloud early on this morning but since then generally conditions have cleared up. There's still a line of cloud high up but the (white) peaks are generally visible from the village. Looking good. The sun is out but it's a fairly chilly 9 degrees or so.

Anyway, welcome back to the reports. Stay tuned for regular reports starting up again as the winter season approaches. Updated will be about once a week or so at first and then increasing in frequency as we get closer to the proper winter snowfalls and ski lifts moving.
