We have had a good helping of snows over night and very strong winds with gale force gusts out of the North West. Temperatures are moderate in the valley hanging around -2. Winds are still strong from the west and we should see winds easing off through the day.

Powder on the slopes is great again today as wind will have reset all the snow that was shredded yesterday. There were reports of multiple avalanches on the in bounds and off piste areas of the resorts. So do be careful out there again today. Best to stay out of the trees all together and keep to the piste.

Driving conditions in the valley are slippery again today and gusts of winds across the roads make visability poor at times so be ready for these.

The Hira Kawa Snow Study Plot (830m) the 0700 hr. reading is:
Sky: overcast
Temperature: Present: -3.0 C
Maximum: -1 C
Minimum: -3 C
Wind: light SE
Precipitation: snowing such as to accumulate-1 cm per hour (S -1)
Barometer and trend: 911 hPa (low) and steady
Height of new snow in 24 hours (HN24): 52 cm
Total depth of snowpack (HS):80 cm
Foot penatratio: 54cm

Above Tree Line: High

At Tree Line: High

Below Tree Line: Considerable

We have had 52 cm of new snow in the past 24 hours in the valley bottom. Winds are expected to ease through the day. The moderately dense new snow, high winds and warm temperatures has created slabs in all open areas. With these conditions human triggered avalanches are likely. Skier/ boarder triggered slabs will pose a significant hazard in steep tensioned terrain (Convexing rolls and around trees and exposed rocks), even at low elevations.

Travel Advisory:
With all of the high winds and rapid snow fall from yesterday slopes are still not stable and travel in avalanche terain is not recomended. Steep lee slopes should be avoided all together. Shooting cracks were witnessed yesterday in the backcountry and in in-bound areas indicating poor stability. Slabs are deep and will propagate wide in large terrain and will also release in forested areas and chutes. Best advise is to stay to the powder on the piste and soft groomed slopes.
