Mad snow fell from yesterday afternoon, there was a short pause in the night but we woke up today to a snow covered town with 30cm accumulation on cars and probably 60cm in places. Fairly heavy snow in the village and as at 6am temperatures were around -3 at 1600m and 0 at 600m but a lot of wet snow is better than none, conditions at the top should be good and temperatures look set to drop more today.

Resorts will take a bit of hustling to get things in full swing but top to bottom runs are possible just watch underfoot as it will still be pretty shallow in places and you may get stuck somewhere with no lift operation so make sure you know where you're going.

Goryu is reporting 140cm base on top and 30cm at bottom so thin on lower runs but snow is still falling and by the end of this storm we should be set for some time to come. Forecast is for cooling temperatures and heavy snow overnight :-)

Official snow depths and operations @ Friday 24th December AM:

Hakuba Goryu:
Goryu is reporting up to 50cm of snow in places on the upper slopes
Alps daira - 140cm;
Toomi - 30cm;
Iimori - 30cm;
More of the resort is now open - just a few parts of the lower Toomi and Iimore slopes to get more snow and open up. Probably very soon

Hakuba 47:
Snow depth (upper) - 75cm;
Strong winds prevented the resort opening up properly early on but things seem to be running normal now. Operations as before but again with this snowfall expect that to get better day by day quickly now.

Usagidaira/Kurobishi - 90cm;
Lower slopes - 30cm.
Not a whole lot of change at Happo but I definitely would expect more to be open tomorrow.

Tsugaike Kogen:
A bumper amount of new snow reported at Tsugaike and now gradually more of the resort is opening up. With just 25cm still on lower slopes it will take a bit more snowfall but as it is now continuing perhaps we can expect tomorrow to bring us more openings.
Snow depth - 155cm
Champion area - 30cm

Hakuba Iwatake:
Upper - 51cm
Lower - 20cm
Iwatake remains part open. The Gondola as well as the View No 3 pair lift, Iwatake No 4 pair lift and Kamoshika No 4 pair lifts are operating.

Hakuba Minekata and Hakuba Sanosaka planned to open for the season on 23rd December but were unable to do so... this snow will surely change that.

So in general as this snow continues to fall, expect things to open up quickly!
