After a lol in the snow fall overnight we are right back were we started - it's snowing again.

With strong winds up top yesterday and large amounts of fresh snow there is a high instability in the off piste areas. Most of the backcountry tours in town are canceling tours because of this danger. Travel in the backcountry or open and exposed areas is not advised. Cornices are big and unstable and windward ridges are scoured of snow from the high winds over the last couple of days. This wind will have also created wind slab in the bowls and week spots around rocks that have been scoured of snow.

Natural and human triggered avalanches likely. Travel in Avalanche terrain is not recommended.

Why not ride all the great snow on the resorts? We have the most snow pre-New Years in over 80 years according to the local Oji-san. The runs keep getting groomed and the snow keeps falling on them. Today we have another 15 cm over top of the groom and it is over knee high on the edges of the runs and so light that plumes and face shots are plentiful. The cloud level is at 1650 so the visibility down low is good and poor in the clouds. Wind is moderate from the North.

It is some of the best skiing everyone you talk to has had in their lives.
