Rain in the valley and probably on the top of the resorts this morning, but for what its worth, it did snow a few more centimeters 1,500m a.s.l. last night. Looks like the rain has stopped for the moment, but one more front of rain heading our way for this afternoon throughout the evening. Winds are from the W.N.W and temperatures are presently at 9 deg.C, expected to rise to the 15 deg.C mark. The visibility is good up to 1,500m a.s.l., but looking a bit socked in above. Please remember that, although here in the valley the cherry blossoms and wild flowers are blooming and spring weather prevails, above 1,600m a.s.l. it can still be quite winter like. Be sure to dress and equip yourself appropriately.

( See Backcountry Advisory Below )

Avalanche Hazard:

Above tree line: Considerable

Tree line: Moderate

Below tree line: Low (no snow)

Due to the new fallen snow from last night and the night before, we now have some pockets of wind blown snow on East faces and can expect sliding on steeper slopes of those aspecs. As for the quality of skiing on the new snow, one should get on it pretty early if they want it good, otherwise you can expect the new stuff to be a bit sticky. In this case, better to look for the thinner snow closer to the corn snow below for that easy Spring glide ( advise by our BC guide Dave, who was up skiing in the alpine yesterday).

Keep in mind, that even though Spring has arrived down here in the valley, it can still be very much like Winter above 1,600m a.s.l., dress and equipe yourself appropriately. For those who may be heading out to Tateyama, expect more snow and Winter like conditions.

Watch out for big cracks and holes, loose debris on the snow and falling from upper cliffs. Shallow snowpack can slide on the bamboo and will release over rocks and points of tension.
