Hakuba currently sits under a low cloud bank that is shrouding all the upper peaks. A balmy plus 5 degrees Celcius at the bottom and plus 2 celcius at the top of the gondola. Expect poor visibility above 1000m and variable spring snow conditions. Exposed patches on lower slopes and glide cracks in the snowpack. Many lower sections of the resorts are now completely closed due to lack of coverage. Higher areas are still fine and great spring skiing can be found. Winds are light from the NW and there is light snow foracast for this evening.

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

Today's poor visibilty and the past few days of heavy rain make for a potential treacherous day for those heading off-piste. Warm temperatures combined with a snowpack saturated with water will most likely create unstable areas in steeper terrain, solar radiated terrain and areas with a shallow snowpack over rocks/vegetation. Spring is a good time to see glide cracks in the snow where a deep fracture will open up in areas of tension. You don't want to end up in one of those. Other hazards to look out for are rock fall from cliff faces and subsequent debris on top of the snow.
