After a wild, windy, winters day yesterday... it’s more of the same today. Well, yesterday actually had a little bit of everything with extreme gusts of wind and heavy snowfall tempered by occasional patches of calm and even a brief moment of sunshine. But limited lift operation due to the wind made it a nice day off the mountain for most.

Today, Kiroro Resort will not operate the Kiroro Gondola or Nagamine 2 due to the high winds. The Center Express and Gateway Gondola will also sit still today, reopening on the weekend. So it’s Nagamine 1, Yoichi 1 and 2 plus the Family chair open today.

For those who do head out, a heavy snowstorm has set in with high winds and snow.

Temperatures are relatively warm by ‘Hokkaido-in-mid-Jan’ standards, ranging from -2 to -7. Visibility is low. The silver lining is that 30cm of snow has fallen at base level over the 24 hour period with more up top, so when this storm does subside (which looks likely to be late today/early tomorrow) there will be plenty of fresh stuff available for the taking.

Official data (as reported by the ski area):

Peak: 230cm snow depth
