It's like a warm day at the beach in Myoko today, currently 9º under hazy skies. The weather folks are still saying it's going to be sunny, but that looks doubtful as of now.

The temperature fell just below freezing overnight under clear, starry skies, but conditions on the slopes are already wet and sloppy, although not very crowded. At least it should be a good day for photos of the surrounding scenery, with excellent visibility as of 11 a.m. The wind has been calm so far this morning.

It clouded over briefly yesterday, but there was hazy sun during the afternoon and after the weekend crowds got done with them the slopes were packed down hard. With no new accumulation for the past few days Ikenotaira and Suginohara have begun carting snow in to top up depleted slopes. They've started doing this a bit earlier in the season than usual due to the mild winter and Akakan will likely need to do the same if the resort is going to stay open through Golden Week as scheduled, a goal that's beginning to look a bit heroic at this point, especially with the highs to remain above freezing into midweek.

They're still forecasting snow tomorrow, but significant precipitation doesn't appear likely until the Friday and through the weekend. The forecast for midweek is cloudy and temperatures above zero. Might be a good idea to pack your wet suit.

Official resort snow depths:

Suginohara:
100cm
Ikenotaira:
125cm
Akakan:
185cm (at top)
Akakura Onsen:
147cm
Madarao:
150cm
Seki Onsen:
260cm
