The warm temperatures out of the south and southwest and overnight rain turned to wet snow around 5 a.m. and it's now coming down fast and furious. Around five centimeters has accumulated since dawn. Conditions along Route 18 weren't too bad, considering sleet was coming down, but it's more slippery the higher you go up the mountain, where the roads are completely covered with snow at this point. Don't forget your chains if you're driving in.

It looks like winter is back, momentarily. Thunder (called "yuki oroshi" around here and probably elsewhere, too) is usually only a sign of snow at the beginning of winter, but the low pressure system moving through the area seems to have shaken the snow gods out of their slumber this morning.

There's no wind as of now, but visibility is fairly poor. The temperature at the base is 2º and it's around zero higher up.

The forecast says that the sun will come out by afternoon and that the temperature is going to soar to 15º tomorrow morning and 17º Thursday morning. We'll see - the forecast was just a bit off this morning. Enjoy the snow while it lasts.
