The snow is definitely falling as promised, but overnight there was more wind than really heavy snow. Little cornices formed around parked cars, with drifts piling up here and there. It hasn't stopped snowing, though, and all reports show days and days of snow ahead.

All areas are now open! The season can now be said to have officially begun, with lots of snow across the Myoko region. Very exciting, actually—people always talk a lot before the season, make their predictions, tell stories about how high the praying mantis nests are (the insects glue papery egg masses at varying heights on branches) ... This year the local knowledge was betting on a, "When it falls, it's going to be heavy" scenario. Just to give credit to the residents (although I still think they're dead wrong on mantis nests—my neighbor has the more persuasive argument that the bugs just place their nests randomly, high and low, on branches, and that some will survive.

Oh, there's much more to it than just weather!
