After two days climbing one of our beautiful peaks here (two times to the top, I mean), your reporter's brain was as hammered as his legs, and he forgot to file yesterday.... Oh well, it was a sunny day with warm temperatures, a nice day to be on the slopes, and actually a better day than Saturday to be up on the mountain skiing. The snowpack has come down a lot, but there's a lot there to work with so no worries for your ongoing skiing pleasure.

The sunny spell was broken today, though, with some snow and wind. It looks terrible at first, with a dusting of snow on top of a gray icy base, but hopefully there will be a little accumulation to soften the harsh lines and cover up the brown on the roads (and on my inevitably dirty car).

There is a pretty strong wind coming in from the north right now, though, so you might want to check on lift operations, particularly the gondolas at Akakura Kanko and Suginohara, and the somewhat temperamental No. 3 lift at the top of Suginohara. I really wouldn't blame the machinery on that count, though....

Current Official Snow Depths:

Akakura Onsen:
