Everything was open yesterday, all lifts and backcountry gates. It was a field day
for powder buffs. It snowed all day and the wind pushed snow into the protected
areas. Nobody cared that a lot of bushes and sassa grass are still exposed. Stories of
waist deep powder snow were heard over the mountain and in town.

The An'napuri gondola queue extended down the steps and past the ski racks. I would like to know why the lift company has not replaced the ancient gondola ski racks that do not fit snowboards or powderskis limiting numbers in the gondola, causing longer waiting times between powder runs. It is the same on the Higashiyama gondola.

Again, there is a slight difference in the snowfall readings between the Hirafu site and the avalanche report. But taking into consideration the numbers of people out on the hill yesterday, it is probably due to the cover being packed down by a lot of riders. Night skiing was fantastic yesterday, there were still several areas where untouched, waist deep powder was available.

It looks like the lows to our north east are going to continue to strenghten over the next couple of days, and considering they extend right up to the north west (Siberia) there is a good chance of some good snow being dragged down from the continent by a high pressure system pressing hard up against that low. Infact, if you were to draw a boundary line between the two systems it would be pointing straight at us. Let's hope the charts are right.

All lifts are operating at the time of this report.
