Yesterday is why we are here. The Village woke up to a surprisingly abundant amount of fresh snow. On top there was a solid 30mm with even deeper fresh between trees and in gullies. The visibility was minimal on the groomed but in the trees it was Hollywood.

Skiers and boarders had untracked lines in Strawberry Fields, Higashiyama and Annupuri. Everyone was raving all afternoon about the face shots they had experienced and the funny thing was that there were so few people on the slopes.

We look ready for another great day.

The official Hirafu numbers aren't available for today yet, but judging by the heavy snowfall early in the evening last night there should be some nice cover higher up the mountain. There was a light dusting this morning with around 5cm of fresh snow in the village this morning, after the ploughs cleared the roads.

There is a low pressure system centered over Kamchatka and a high centered over Baikal which appear to be grinding against each other. Although this is a bit far north at the moment, it should bring some light to moderate snowfalls over the next day or two depending on how windy things get. However it looks like Saturday may be the culmination of this weather pattern when the boundary of the two systems should pass right over us, but then quickly move away to the east by Sunday/Monday.
