Good morning from Hirafu and this morning there is no new snow to report.

There's quite a lot of cloud around this morning and a bit of an overcast feel going on, but there's some blue sky as well. Might it clear up? We'll just have to wait and see, though forecasts say generally cloudy for the day.

They also give us some sunshine in the coming few days and some warmer conditions, though certainly not as extreme as some places down on Honshu seems destined to get this week. Fingers crossed it can keep fairly cold. Not much to expect in terms of snowfall, possibly some light overnight tonight but other than that...

All gates expected to be open this morning. Most lifts seem set to be open though I am hearing maybe some top lift stoppages or late starts - still quite windy up there. As always check with the resorts for the latest up to date if you plan on going out.

It should be another very fine day.

Niseko Avalanche Report

Niseko base 6am: -7C, no new snow, sunny. Moiwa 800m: SW5m/s, -8C, no new snow. Annupuri 1000m: snowpack 340cm. Hirafu 1000m: light winds, no new snow, -7℃. Annupuri peak 1308m: -8.6C. Cape Benkei: light winds, calm sea, Cape Kamui: SSW12m/s, pressure 10216hPa, wave 0.8m.

We are in middle of high pressure system, pressure gradient is shallow and experiencing calm weather. No snow clouds and no new snowdrift development. From snowfall transition and observation general avalanche risk is low. All gates are expected to be open. Please listen to patrols advice before going out of bounds. Dont stimulate cornices, they will break easily. Take care not to fall into cracks, they are hidden from above. Take care of collisions with trees. We are expecting snow this afternoon. Beware stopping in valley bottoms, this is the path of large scale avalanche, which will bring trees, rocks, etc. Your freedom to ride out of bounds is protected by Niseko Rules. No mountain is 100% safe, but if you are careful we can minimise accidents. Dont over estimate your knowledge and equipment. Is your beacon on? Have a good day.
